Findlay City Council got an update on the city and county health department merger. Health commissioner Karim Baroudi said that it was a good decision to combine the departments.
Baroudi said that he wants to figure out a plan for getting a new building before coming again
Aside from needing a new building Baroudi said that they have expanded services He added the department is also looking forward to getting accredited sometime in early 2019.
03/16/18 – 4:42 A.M.
Over 200 parents, teachers, and students met to discuss the safety at Findlay City Schools with a panel of local officials. Superintendent Ed Kurt said that getting thoughts and opinions from outside sources is important.
Kurt explained that it is also a very important topic to look at.
Many of the people that came expressed concerns about people getting into the schools. They thought metal detectors would be a necessary investment. Others thought that parents need to do more to be involved in school activities.

03/01/18 – 11:36 A.M.
An Accident has caused a major back up on I-75 North and roadwork is affecting traffic in the southbound lanes. Waze users report that a semi truck jackknifed closing the northbound lanes adding about half an hour to your drive. To get around this jam you’ll want to hop off I-75 at State Route 235 heading north. Then you’ll want to head east on State Route 12 back towards Findlay and I-75.
Construction has backed up traffic to one lane heading southbound clear to County Road 99. To get around this jam you’ll want to head west on 99 towards County Road 140. Head south on 140 towards State Route 12 where you’ll want to turn west. Stay on 12 until you reach State Route 235 and continue heading south until you reach I-75.

4-H Week kicks off on Monday to showcase the programs that are available in Hancock County. Cassie Anderson serves Hancock County as an extension educator. She said that there are programs for everyone.
The first event is a kickoff party on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Everyone is welcome to come. Anderson said the last day to join 4-H is April 1.
Cancer-Patient Services is holding its Annual Chili Cook-off fundraiser this Saturday. Event co-chair Suzette Boyd said they hope to bring in a bigger crowd than last year.
The event will feature over 20 teams competing for best chili as well as a kids zone. There will also be basket and trip raffles for sale. Boyd said that the proceeds will help fund the services offered by the organization.
Tickets to the event are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12-years-old and free for children under 6. The event will be from 4:30-8 p.m. at the University of Findlay’s Koehler Center.
1/30/18 – 8:46 A.M.
The Cooper Tire & Rubber board of directors will have a new Vice President and Treasurer starting Thursday. Jerry Bialek is taking over the position on February 1. He’ll also continue to lead investor relations for the company.
Bialek replaces Tom Lause, who retires from Cooper effective January 31.

The county is set to make repairs to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles offices on County Road 140. The Hancock County Commissioners approved a contract for more than $34,000 with Garlock Brothers Construction during their Thursday meeting…

Commissioner Tim Bechtol says the damage happened in November. Workers in the office have been working around the problems since then.
The offices won’t have to close while the repairs take place.
The county’s insurance policy is paying the cost of the contract.
1/2/18 – 5:11 A.M.
Five fire departments battled a fire west of Fostoria late Monday afternoon. The Review-Times reports firefighters responded to a blaze at 4588 Stearns Road around 5:45 p.m. They put the flames out by 9 p.m. but stayed at the scene to watch for flare-ups.
We’ll have more details on the fire as they become available.
10/3/17 – 5:16 A.M.
Carey is taking steps to get funding for a new sanitary sewer lift station. The Courier reports the village is applying for up to $420,000 in grants and loans from the state Public Works Commission. Carey has to submit the grant application to the Wyandot County Commissioners by Friday.
Lift stations pump wastewater or sewage from lower to higher elevations. Carey has already rebuilt two of the village’s five lift stations.
If approved, Carey could pay up to 40 percent of the project. That amounts to $168,000.
The application has to pass through a ranking process. If it gets by that part of the approval process it moves to a final round in early 2018.

Driving under the influence is a bad thing to do but now those that do are more likely to get caught. The Courier’s Eileen McClory says that there’s been an increase of arrests.
McClory said that the increased training has allowed officers to better tell when someone is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She added that the State Highway Patrol has reported fewer accidents involving substance abuse.
