Findlay 3rd Ward Council Candidate Banned From Two City Buildings

04/28/17 – 1:35 P.M.

A candidate for Findlay’s 3rd Ward City Council Seat isn’t allowed in two city-owned buildings. The Courier reports that 46-year-old Michael Tanner is barred from The Cube and Findlay’s Tiffin Avenue fire station. He also has criminal trespass warnings for both buildings.

He was arrested for domestic violence against his ex-wife in June of 2016 but was never formally charged. She claimed that Tanner elbowed her in the stomach and blocked her with his butt from waving to their son. Mayor Lydia Mihalik asked for the trespass warnings for the Cube after the incident. She said that this is normal procedure.

Tanner was banned from the fire station after a firefighter reported that Tanner was harassing him at work in 2015. According to police reports, the firefighter was dating Tanner’s ex-wife. The firefighter said that Tanner repeatedly drove by the fire station. Firefighters found fliers on their vehicles describing sexual things about Tanner’s ex-wife and that she had mental issues.

On Monday police were called to a Findlay home for a domestic dispute involving Tanner and his second wife and her daughter. The woman was attempting to leave but Tanner blocked her vehicle. Both of them say the argument was only verbal and no arrests were made. The police report lists Tanner’s address outside of Findlay’s 3rd Ward

Bed Tax Distribution Recieves Some Helpful Input From The City Auditor

03/21/17 – 10:53 P.M.

The Bed Tax Distribution committee met to ask for the recommendations of the city auditor. Jim Staschiak told the committee that he thinks they should avoid putting money into a 3rd party.

The committee was planning on giving the funds to the Conventions and Visitors Bureau, who is the likely vetting agent. From there, they could provide funds to organizations putting on events in the city that met the requirements.

Committee Chairman Grant Russell said they will talk to the CVB about it but Staschiak makes a good point. By keeping the money with council they will get the last say in who receives the money. They will meet with the CVB again to discuss the requirements for the funds.

Hancock County Commissioner Shares Thoughts On Flood Mitigation Proposal

02/23/17 – 1:07 P.M.

Stantec announced their recommended plans for flood mitigation in Hancock County last night. Hancock County Commissioner Brian Robertson said that the new plans appear to be better.

Brian Robertson

The plan is to enhance the Blanchard River and add dry Basin storage areas on Eagle Creek, Lye Creek, and Potato Run.

Robertson said that the price tag for those projects might seem daunting but they are comparable to the diversion channel.

Robertson explained that the extra $20 million will also cover a greater percentage of the watershed.

The plans aren’t dependent on each other. Robertson says that he wants to focus on enhancing the river and save the other projects for later.

This will give Stantec time to further research the other projects and fine-tune the cost.
