Carey Buys Generator For Police Department

3/23/17 – 5:15 A.M.

The Carey Police Department will operate normally the next time the village has a power outage. The Courier reports the village is buying two portable generators at a cost of $16,000.

The village is installing the equipment in the Public Services Building and Waterworks Park.

The police department lost power during a recent outage.

Volunteers Needed At Oakwoods Nature Preserve

3/23/17 – 5:10 A.M.

The Hancock Park District needs volunteers to help rehabilitate the Oakwoods Nature Preserve. The agency says they need people through September to remove invasive species, cut grapevines, and collect seeds among other tasks.

If you plan to help out, you should bring work gloves and dress for the weather. The park district will provide tools but you can also bring your own. You’ll also need to register the day before each clean up session.

Session Schedule:

• Saturdays: 10 a.m. to noon, March 25, April 8, and 10:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 2.
• Saturdays: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 17, July 8 and Aug. 5.
• Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 6 to 7:30 p.m., March 28, April 11 and May 30-31.
• Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 6:30 to 8 p.m., June 20-21, July 11, Aug. 8.

Leipsic Remains At Odds With ODOT Over Traffic Light

3/23/17 – 5:00 A.M.

Leipsic officials say a flashing traffic light at a busy intersection is staying right where it is, despite ODOT’s recommendation for its removal. The Putnam County Sentinel reports the issue came to light when Leipsic asked ODOT to repair a short in a blinking light at the intersection of State Route 613 and County Road 7. The agency told the village they never sanctioned the light in the first place.

The newspaper reports ODOT directed Leipsic to remove the light and install oversize stop signs. Village council decided to spend $2,000 to fix the flashing light instead.

Wood County Boy Reported Missing

03/22/17 – 6:18 P.M.

An 11-year-old boy has been reported as missing in Wood County. The courier reports the boy went missing in the Bairdstown Road area. He was last seen wearing a black and green sweat outfit. He is described as being 4 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 75 pounds, and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

If you find this boy the sheriff’s office says to call 911.

Fostoria Man Arrested For Arlington Bank Robbery

03/22/17 – 6:02 P.M.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Fostoria Man for a December bank robbery. They arrested 42-year-old David Dailey for the robbery of the Huntington Bank branch in Arlington on December 10. The Hancock County grand jury indicted him for armed robbery.

According to a release, the investigation took four months. It was conducted with the help from the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. The sheriff’s office said that citizens were able to identify Dailey after they released a photo on February 1.

Findlay Named Tree City USA

03/22/17 – 4:46 P.M.

Findlay was named a 2016 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. Findlay earned the title for its commitment to effective urban forest management. To receive a Tree City USA recognition you must meet four requirements. You must have a tree board or department, and a tree-care ordinance. You must have an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita. The final requirement is to have an Arbor day observance and proclamation.

Victims Identified In Liberty Township Shooting

03/22/17 – 4:08 P.M.

The two people killed in the Liberty Township shooting on Monday have been identified. The Sheriff’s office reports that they found 19-year-old Ashley Sayarath dead with 2 gunshot wounds. She was found at her residence at 605 Palm Drive. They also found Ashley’s cousin, 30-year-old David Sayarath of Bluffton dead from a single gunshot wound.

The investigation has determined that David shot Ashley and then turned the gun on himself. They have not determined a motive and the investigation continues at this time.

2018 Budget Proposal Can Affect BCMH Services

03/22/17 – 4:01 P.m.

The state budget for 2018 could affect a service offered to low-income families with a disabled child. BCMH Services support families with children that face physical and developmental challenges. Hancock Health Commissioner Karim Baroudi said that the services were well used but that this created some issues.

Baroudi said that if the budget is passed then the services will transfer to the Ohio Department of Medicaid. He isn’t sure how this will affect the services.

Baroudi added that they will continue to care for people until the transfer is official.

If the budget passes and you apply after July 1 you will receive care from the department of Medicaid. Baroudi added that they want to ensure an easy transition so that every receives a continuity of care.

Hancock Fire Departments Receive Grant Money For Communication Upgrades

03/22/17 – 11:37 A.M.

Eight fire departments in Hancock County will be receiving money to upgrade their radio system. The departments will receive over 100,000 to buy MARCS radios and pay user fees. The system is used across the state by emergency personnel. It will improve communication efforts during emergencies, making communities safer.

This is part of a 3 million dollar grant that was given out statewide to fire departments.
