Local Gas Prices Down Slightly

4/17/17 – 7:15 A.M.

Local gas prices are down slightly compared to last Monday. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.32 in Findlay today. That’s four cents cheaper than a week ago. A year ago we were paying $2.05 per gallon.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.33 for a gallon of regular. That’s down six cents over the last seven days.

The statewide average is $2.31 per gallon, which is also a six cent drop over the last week.

Fostoria Residents Have Chance To Talk About Proposed Charter Change

Fostoria residents have a chance to talk about a proposed change to the city’s charter Tuesday. On April 4, At-large Councilman Mathew Davoli proposed changing the charter to allow council to make major changes to the police and fire departments. The Review-Times reports voters passed a law limiting council’s power to restructure the city’s safety forces in 2011.

The subject became a heated topic between council members at their last meeting. However council voted 6-1 to allow residents to have the chance to talk about the subject at the April 18 meeting.

Forest Man Injured In Weekend Crash Near Arlington

4/17/17 – 5:29 A.M.

A one-car crash injured a Forest man near Arlington Saturday night. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened east of Arlington on the south side of State Route 103.

62-year-old John Bond went down an embankment and hit a tree. Applessed EMS took Bond to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

 

Putnam County Swears In New Common Pleas Court Judge

4/17/17 – 5:22 A.M.

For the first time since the 1980’s Putnam County has a new common pleas court judge. The Lima News reports retired Municipal Court Judge Michael O’Malley swore in Keith Schierloh Saturday. More than 100 people were in attendance for the ceremony.

Schierloh takes the place of Judge Randall Basinger. Basinger decided not to run for reelection last fall so he could focus on a campaign for an appeals court position.

Schierloh is an Ottawa-Glandorf High School and University of Findlay graduate. He received his law degree from the University of Toledo and has been a general practice attorney for 18 years.

Findlay Man Accused Of Trying To Stab Officer To Have Competency Evaluation

4/17/17 – 5:12 A.M.

Officials in Seneca County want to see if a Findlay man accused of trying to stab a Tiffin police officer is competent to stand trial. The Advertiser-Tribune reports 34-year-old Vincent Fedele will have an evaluation at the District V Forensic Diagnostic Center in Mansfield.

Investigators say Fedele tried to stab officer Justin Nowalk following a traffic stop on March 14.

A judge set bond in the case at $1 million. He faces felonious assault and resisting arrest charges. Fedele is also facing a felony drug charge in Hancock County and has warrants for incidents in Elyria and Toledo.

Several Road Projects Start This Week In Hancock County

4/17/17 – 5:03 A.M.

You’ll see ODOT crews around Hancock County this week. The agency says the entrance ramp from State Route 103 to I-75 northbound in Bluffton is closing Tuesday for pavement repair. ODOT will also restrict traffic on the interstate in that area while work takes place.

A bridge repair project starts this week on State Routes 12 and 235 in western Hancock County. The bridge is between Route 235 and Township Road 57 near Benton Ridge. ODOT says the bridge closes for 60 days starting today.

You can also expect to see berm work on Route 12 and U.S. 224 between Findlay and Putnam County, Route 186 between U.S. 224 and McComb, and Route 613 Between I-75 and Putnam County.

Night Work Continues On I-75 In Findlay This Week

4/17/17 – 4:51 A.M.

ODOT crews are continuing night work on I-75 in Findlay this week. The agency is restricting the interstate to one lane in both directions between the Blanchard River and County Road 99 from 9 p.m. to 7 am. each night. Workers are working on the shoulder of the interstate so they can place temporary pavement in preparation for future shifts in traffic patterns.

ODOT is not closing any exits in Findlay this week.

Candidate Profile: Tim Davis

4/17/17 – 4:30 A.M.

The May primary election is rapidly approaching, and we begin our look at the candidates running in contested races today. Tim Davis is one of four Democrats running for a Council-at-Large seat. Davis says he’s running so he can give a voice to those who don’t feel like they’re being heard…

Davis says he would do that by holding monthly meetings with constituents at area coffee houses and through interaction over the internet.

Davis says council needs more transparency when it comes to budget issues…

Davis says council could advertise the issues that are going to come up in each meeting before they take place so more people know what is going on.

Davis says Dayton provides a good example of how to handle bikes in the Findlay downtown area…

Davis added he thinks bikes on sidewalks at busy times can be a safety problem for pedestrians.

Alexandria’s Bringing The 80’s Back To Findlay

04/14/17 – 3:25 P.M.

The 80’s are making a comeback this weekend at Alexandria’s on Crawford Street. Alexandria’s is hosting it’s Back to the 80’s Bash starting at 7:30 P.M. this Saturday in their Findlay Room. It costs $5 at the door or you can reserve a table for 10 people for $100. The night will feature DJ Old Skool and eighties arena rock tribute Electrik Circus.
