Easter Egg Hunts Are Coming To Findlay This Weekend

There are several Easter Egg hunts available in Findlay this weekend according to socialfindlay.com. St. John’s Lutheran Church on Tiffing Avenue will have an egg hunt as well as a luncheon with a visit from the Easter Bunny. This will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.

The Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation will host three egg hunts starting at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12 p.m. on Saturday. You can gain entrance by buying a train ride. The train ride costs $2 for adults and $1 for children.

The YMCA will be hosting a free Easter Egg hunt at Riverside park starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday. This egg hunt is meant for children 10-years-old or younger.

Commencement Speakers Are Lined Up For The University Of Findlay

An Ohio State Senator and a successful alumnus will speak at the University of Findlay’s commencement ceremonies. The ceremony will be on May 6 at the Koehler center. UF alumnus Adam Hechko will speak at 9 a.m. to the graduate ceremony participants. He is now the owner and medical director for North Royalton Animal Hospital.

At 3 p.m. Senator Randy Gardner will address the undergraduate students. He has served in both the Ohio Senate and the House of Representatives. He was elected majority floor leader of the Senate.

Part Of Dayton Avenue In Findlay Will Be Closed Next Week

A part of Dayton Avenue in Findlay will be closed next week. The Engineering Department says that Dayton Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Tiffin to Balsley Avenues. The closing will start Monday and last until Friday. The City of Findlay will be installing a new storm line on Dayton Avenue.

Fostoria Man Arrested After Brief Standoff

4/14/17 – 5:20 A.M.

Fostoria police arrested a man after a brief standoff Wednesday night. The Review-Times reports 25-year-old Logan Chilcote faces inducing panic, having weapons under disability, and obstructing official business charges.

Police responded to reports of a man standing outside with a gun at the Eco Village on Eco Drive around 8:15 p.m. Chilcote went back to an apartment and refused to come out when officers arrived. Around 30 minutes later a woman told officers Chilcote was in her apartment and gave permission for them to search for the man.

Police arrested Chilcote without further incident. Captain Dan Dell tells the newspaper drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the case.

Former Putnam County Substitute Teacher Pleads Guilty To Sex Crime

4/14/17 – 5:03 A.M.

A former substitute teacher in Putnam County accused of having sex with a Pandora-Gilboa student appeared in court Thursday. The Lima News reports 28-year-old Jessica Storer pleaded guilty to sexual battery. In exchange for the plea, the prosecution dropped six charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor. She faces up to five years in prison. She’ll also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.

During the hearing, Assistant Prosecutor Lilly Shun said Storer’s husband is also facing charges in the case. 33-year-old Derek Storer has pleaded guilty to three counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Investigators say the Storer’s invited a group of teenagers to their home on November 25. Jessica Storer admitted in court she had sex with an 18-year-old student that night.

State Of The County Address Covers Wide Range Of County Issues

The Hancock County Commissioners gave their State of the County address Thursday. Commissioner Brian Roberts said that the budget doesn’t have much wiggle room.

Robertson added that there is sales tax renewal coming up to vote. He urges residents to pass the renewal because over half of the county’s budget comes from the sales tax.

Commissioner Tim Bechtol said that the opioid epidemic is a major strain on the county’s resources.

Commissioner Mark Gazarek shared the forward momentum that flood mitigation has seen after hiring Stantec Engineering.

He added that the alternative option of cleaning and widening the Blanchard River has a high cost-benefit ratio. He said that he hopes to move forward with this plan.

 

Valfilm Announces That Findlay Will Host Their North American Headquarters

Valfilm announced some big news for the City of Findlay. Economic Development Director Tim Mayle said that they are moving their North American headquarters to Findlay.

The expansion will make a building to allow a better form of creating their plastic shrink wrap product used in shipping.

Valfilm came to Findlay in 2014 when they purchased the Dow Plant. They announced the news that this plant will become their North American headquarters to Findlay delegates in Brazil. The delegates went to the country on Valfilm’s request and learned about their production.

Findlay Firefighters Worked With Life Flight For Training

04/13/17 – 6:02 P.m.

Findlay area fire departments and some Findlay police officers received training on Life Flight landing zone operations. Life Flight’s Nick Vance said that they trained Findlay firefighters in bringing a helicopter down safely.

Vance added that the training helps bring the firefighters and pilots together. Vance said that it will help make things more efficient.

The training went over calling in a helicopter for landing as well as safety precautions. With the ongoing construction on I-75 the departments and Life Flight though it would be good to go over the material.

Preservation Funds Could Help With Repainting Interior Of County Courthouse

4/13/17 – 10:45 A.M.

Funds set aside for historic preservation could help pay for a fresh coat of paint in the Hancock County Courthouse. The commissioners agreed to submit the repainting project to the Ohio Historical Society during their Thursday meeting.

The money comes from an agreement between the Society and Energy Transfer Partners. ETP is building the Rover pipeline, which goes through part of Hancock County. All counties affected by the project are eligible for a $50,000 preservation grant.

The application from the county estimates the courthouse repainting project will cost $80,000. The county plans to bid the project this spring.
