Findlay Sports One Of The Best Places To Fish For Yellow Perch

Findlay Reservoir No. 2 made the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ list of top inland lakes. ODNR reports that the reservoir is one of the best places to fish for Yellow Perch. Good numbers of the perch over 10 inches in length are caught every year. The reservoir offers shoreline and boat fishing. There is an improved concrete ramp and launching dock for boats but there is a 10 horsepower limit for gas motors.

Contract For Courthouse Drainage Improvement Project Approved

If you spend time in downtown Findlay, you’ll see some construction work around the Hancock County courthouse soon. The Hancock County Commissioners approved a $317,000 contract with Heyne Construction of Minster during their Tuesday meeting. The contract covers replacing drainage around the courthouse and the building’s HVAC system. The deal also includes replacing some of the sidewalks and landscaping in the area.

The bid from Heyne was the lowest submitted for the drainage project.

Inmate Dies In Allen County Jail

Authorities in Allen County are investigating the death of a jail inmate. The Lima News reports correction officers found the inmate unresponsive around 5:15 p.m. Doctors pronounced the inmate dead at St. Rita’s Medical Center around 30 minutes later.

The sheriff’s office isn’t releasing the inmate’s name pending notification of family members.

Carey Looking At More Ways To Reach Residents

Carey officials want to reach out to residents more. The Courier reports the village’s planning committee talked about that subject during a Monday meeting. Mayor Jennifer Rathburn offered to oversee a Facebook page for the village. She also talked about using Twitter and “coffee get-togethers” to interact more with residents.

Rathburn says she wants to “reach people where they’re at.” The group also discussed having council members write columns in local media to provide their prospective of what’s happening in Carey.

Bond Set For Fostoria Man Accused Of Severely Beating Girlfriend

4/11/17 – 5:07 A.M.

A Fostoria man accused of beating his girlfriend appeared in court Monday. The Review-Times reports Judge Michael Kelbley set bond at $200,000 for 27-year-old Travis Dauterman. Dauterman faces a felonious assault charge in the case, as well as two counts of kidnapping and one count of domestic violence.

Investigators say Dauterman beat his girlfriend with his fists for several hours in his North Union Street home on March 15. Employees of a nearby business found the victim after she was able to escape and call for help. Police arrested Dauterman after a lengthy standoff.\

Police Looking For Man Who Tried To Steal Several Items From Meijer

4/11/17 – 4:56 A.M.

Findlay police are looking for a man who tried to steal several items from the Meijer store on Tiffin Avenue last Friday. The incident happened just before 1 p.m. A loss prevention employee confronted the suspect, who dropped everything and ran out of the store. Security cameras show the man later returned to the parking lot and left in a black Dodge Charger.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the incident to call (419)424-7150.

Putnam County Man Killed In Farming Accident

04/10/17 – 6:02 P.M.

A farming accident caused the death of a Putnam County man Monday. The Putnam County Sheriff’s reports they were called to 17122 Road I-14 in Greensburg Township for a trapped person. 69-year-old Gordon Verhoff was trapped between the frame and bed of a dump truck.

The Sheriff’s office believes that Verhoff had finished dumping a load of stone and inspected the vehicle. It then dropped on him. The sheriff’s office said that Verhoff suffered fatal injuries from the accident.

Hancock County Has Trees For Sale

04/10/17 – 5:24 P.M.

Hancock Soil and Water Conservation District has a limited amount of extra tree seedlings and transplants available. They are bare root stock ranging from 8 inches to 20 inches. The SWCD is selling the trees in packets of 10 transplants or 25 seedlings for $16 per packet. You can choose from a variety of pine, spruce, fir, and cedar seedlings.

Findlay City Schools Talked About Renewal Levy And Internet Connections

04/10/17 – 5:05 P.M.

The Findlay City School District gave an update to the Findlay Rotary Club about their projects. District treasurer Mike Barnhart said that taxpayers will see a levy on the ballot in may but it’s just a renewal.

Barnhart added that they are making it a continuous levy to assure that the taxes won’t be raised in the future

The school also talked about the black fiber project to improve the internet connection in the city. Barnhart said that the project will benefit more than just the school district.
