County Commissioners Talk About Sales Tax Renewal

The Hancock County Commissioners gave an update on the county Friday afternoon. Commissioner Brian Roberston said that they need your support in renewing the sales tax.

Robertson added that they also need to work on maintaining the county-owned infrastructure that is facing disrepair. Robertson said that paying for the maintenance has become a concern.

They will cover more of the county’s status at the State of the County Address in their office next Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Township Road 204 Restricted Early Next Week

04/07/17 – 3:33 P.M.

The Hancock County Engineer Office announced that they will restrict a township road at the beginning of next week. Township Road 2014 between Brookside Drive and Park Street will be restricted from Monday to Tuesday next week. They Will be completing soil borings. You are urged to use caution in the area.

State Patrol Warns Against Distracted Driving

04/07/17 – 3:07 P.M.

The Findlay Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol wants to remind you to keep your eyes on the road. April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. In a release, they say that almost 14,000 crashes in Ohio had a reported distraction last year.

Lt. Matt Crow said, “Distracted driving is unsafe and irresponsible.” He added that the consequences can be devasting and happen in a split second.

Ohio law says that texting while driving is illegal for all drivers and serves as a secondary offense.

Road construction season is here and ODOT officials want you to take it easy around the orange barrels. The agency wrapped up National Work Zone Awareness Week Friday with a press conference along I-75 in Findlay…

Chris Hughes is a project engineer with ODOT District 1. He says there were more than 700 fatalities in work zone crashes across the nation in 2016. Hughes adds the majority of those fatalities involved people in cars, and not construction workers.

Lt. Jarrod Savage of the State Patrol also spoke at the press conference. He said troopers will be watching to make sure drivers aren’t following too closely in construction areas. He adds that is what leads to most work zone collisions.

ODOT Announces Upcoming Work On I-75 Project Through Hancock County

04/07/17 – 10:34 A.M.

Work continues on I-75 as ODOT prepares for upcoming lane shifts. The highway will be restricted in each direction to one lane from Findlay High School to County Road 99 in Findlay. They are performing shoulder work and placing temporary pavement from around 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. Lane shifts can be expected in the northbound direction in about two weeks. Two lanes will be maintained during daytime hours

The highway from County Road 99 to Oil Center Road is reduced to two lanes right now in each direction. They are doing pavement work each night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will continue through June.

ODOT has scheduled the Harrison Street Bridge to close on May 8 for about nine months.

Seneca County Looks To Upgrade Safety Service Communications

4/7/17 – 5:26 A.M.

Seneca County officials are moving forward with a safety services communication upgrade. The Review-Times reports the county commissioners voted 2-1 to name an internet technology consultant for the $633,000 project.

The project dates back to 2012. The commissioners want to build a fiber network in the county. Public safety services will use the network for communications and data transmissions between different agencies.

The county recently received $337,000 from the state to buy three new ambulances. That reduced the grant money available for the fiber project to $163,000. The county is also getting a $500,000 interest-free loan to pay for the communication upgrade.

Findlay Woman Facing Drug Trafficking Charges

4/7/17 – 5:15 A.M.

A Findlay woman is facing drug charges after investigators unsealed a secret indictment this week. The grand jury indicted 45-year-old Kimberly Baldwin on a count of trafficking less than a gram of heroin and one count of trafficking less than five grams of cocaine. Authorities say the incidents happened in March and May of 2016.

Baldwin is in the Hancock County Jail as her case progresses.

Liberty Township Man Accused Of Propositioning Children

4/7/17 – 5:04 A.M.

Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Liberty Township man this week for allegedly propositioning children. Detectives recently took 59-year-old Jeffery Julien into custody at 8240 Hazelwood Drive. The home is in the Riverview Terrace Mobile Home Park

Investigators say the arrest is the result of an ongoing criminal investigation. They had received reports of older man propositioning younger children in the area.

Findlay Democratic Council-At Large Candidates Talk Politics At Forum

04/06/17 – 10:34 P.M.

The four council-at-large candidates in the democratic primary race discussed how they would handle the budget in Findlay. Tim Davis said that there are ways to save money.

Dorney Plaza renovations was another topic discussed by the candidates. Barbara Lockard said she agrees with the project but wants to know more about its future.

Mary Harshfield said that she didn’t think the project should have been given the okay so soon.

They also shared what they thought Findlay needed most. Tim Davis said he thought better jobs are a must.

Another topic was the proposed bike restriction in Downtown Findlay. Heidi Mercer said that she thinks it is a good idea but there is more to look at.
