Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik expanded on her State of the City Address. She said that Findlay is doing very well and will continue to grow.

Mihalik explained that the city is in a good position despite having a deficit budget this year. Mihalik said that the city can cover the shortfall. She added that this keeps the burden off of the city’s departments and the taxpayers.

She added that it is good that the city can invest in itself and remains financially capable of supporting itself. She said that they will continue to monitor the budget to make sure that the deficit isn’t part of a trend.

04/03/17 – 5:36 P.M.

The Findlay Police Department is looking for a woman who robbed a bank on Tiffin Avenue on Monday. Police say an unidentified black woman entered Key Bank around 2 p.m. and pulled out a large knife. She robbed the bank of an undetermined amount of cash.

The suspect is overweight and about 5 feet, 4 inches tall. She was wearing a black sweatshirt, a white hat, and had something covering her mouth. After the robbery, she ran out of the bank and is believed to have gotten in a small black car. Police don’t know where she went to afterward.

Tax season means that there will be scammers out posing as the IRS to get your money. Crime Victim Services of Putnam County’s Becca Peckinpaugh said that scams tend to target the elderly.

Peckinpaugh said that there are ways to tell if you’re being scammed.

Peckinpaugh said that if you do fall for a scam then you should contact your local law enforcement. You can also contact the Crime Victim Services for your county and the Better business Bureau. This will help develop a pattern of behavior for the scammer and hopefully lead to a quicker arrest.

04/03/17 – 3:27 P.M.

A Findlay woman was hurt in a two-car crash in Findlay this morning. The Courier reports that the crash happened around 6:50 a.m. at Howard and Bolton Streets. 82-year-old Patricia Miles of Findlay failed to stop at a stop sign on Bolton. She hit a car driven by 19-year-old Hailey Oldford-Ostrowski of Massachusetts.

Miles suffered minor injuries in the crash. Police cited her for failure to yield from a stop sign.

04/03/17 – 3:12 P.M.

Spring is here and farmers should make sure they’re prepared for a nice day. OSU extension educator Ed Lentz said that farmers should check they’re spreaders before they take care of the fields.

Lentz said that farmers should check every piece of the equipment and run water through it to make sure it’s working. He added that farmers should run calculations of what they need so that they are most effective when they get in the fields.

4/3/17 – 7:20 A.M.

Authorities are investigating an Ada man for alleged inappropriate contact with a minor. The Lima News reports the Ada Police Department is investigating 68-year-old Dennis Dellifield for possible charges of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.

The newspaper reports the investigation started after a 16-year-old boy and his parents reported the former Allen East band teacher texted the boy asking for inappropriate pictures.

The alleged text messages to the boy happened after Dellifield resigned from Allen East. Police say Dellifield sent similar messages to an 18-year-old former student as well.

Dellifield stepped down in March of 2016 after a female student reported he inappropriately touched her. The investigation into that incident is ongoing as well.

4/3/17 – 6:50 A.M.

The Kiwanis Club of Fostoria is looking for community support for a patriotic effort. The Review-Times reports the organization is collecting donations for the annual Flags for Fostoria project. For $25 per year, the Kiwanis will place an American flag in the donor’s yard for Memorial Day, Flag Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

Volunteers place the flag in the yard of a donor’s home at 7 a.m. and collect it at 6 p.m. each holiday.

Proceeds from the effort benefit several community outreach organizations.
