North Baltimore To Continue Waterline Replacement Project

04/19/17 – 12:32 P.M.

North Baltimore continues with waterline replacement despite striking two unmapped lines last week. The Courier reports that lines built in the 1890’s are being replaced with the help of state funding. It has caused issues for residents to access businesses in the downtown area. Village administrator Allyson Murray apologized for the inconvenience.

The waterlines that were struck weren’t on any existing maps. The struck lines caused residents and businesses in the area to be without water for about an hour. Murray said that they are scheduling more lines to be done downtown.

Carey Man Arrested On Sex Charges

04/19/17 – 11:24 A.M.

A Carey man faces sex-related charges. WKTN Radio reports that 21-year-old Devon Layfield stands accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl. Wyandot County Sheriff’s Deputies took him into custody on Sunday.

A grand jury indicted Layfield on charges of unlawful sexual contact with a minor and sexual imposition.

Findlay Woman Hurt In Rollover Crash

04/19/17 – 10:36 A.M.

A single-car crash sent a Findlay woman to the hospital on Sunday. The Courier reports that 20-year-old Jamie Leonard was driving on Ohio 613 when she lost control on a curve. She went into a field and rolled twice around 11:30 p.m.

Police cited her for operating a vehicle without reasonable control. Hanco Ambulance took Leonard Blanchard Valley hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Fostoria City Council Votes Down City Charter Change Ordinance

04/19/17 – 9:58 A.M.

Fostoria City Council shut down a charter change ordinance yesterday after many people spoke out against it. The Review-Times reports the ordinance would have allowed the city council to make changes to the police and fire departments. A 2-4 vote dropped the proposed legislation.

Councilman Matt Davoli proposed the charter change. He said it would give greater flexibility to deliver services in a more cost-effective manner. The council chambers were standing room only and many people voiced their displeasure.

Findlay Municipal Building Using Temporary Entrance Rest Of Month

4/19/17 – 5:33 A.M.

If you have business in the Findlay Municipal Building you’ll need to use a different entrance for the rest of the month. The city says the main doors have closed while crews replace concrete on Dorney Plaza . That means the doors on the south side of the building are open to the public for the first time since a security upgrade project closed them a few years ago.

The city expects the work on the east side of the building to last through April 28.

Harshfield adds she doesn’t want to see the city rush into expenses. She feels the Dorney Plaza upgrade project seemed rushed and needed more public discussion.

Harshfield says a compromise is needed when it comes to bikes on downtown sidewalks…

Harshfield says some of the alleys in downtown are dangerous for bicyclists because of potholes and issues with lighting.

Prosecutors File New Charges Against Liberty Township Man

4/19/17 – 5:25 A.M.

The suspect in a Liberty Township sex crime is facing a new charge. The Courier reports 59-year-old Jeffery Julien now faces a kidnapping charge with a specification. The specification says Julien committed the crime with a sexual motivation. The grand jury also indicted him on a third-degree importuning charge.

The new charges could mean a longer prison sentence if a jury finds Julien guilty.

Hancock County Prosecutor Phil Riegle says officials tossed out other charges and indicted Julien again Tuesday. The grand jury indicted Julien for kidnapping and importuning charges last week.

Grand Jury Indicts Findlay Woman Charged In Stabbing Case

4/19/17 – 5:17 A.M.

The Hancock County grand jury indicted a Findlay woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the foot Tuesday. The Courier reports 24-year-old Bethany Rayl faces a felonious assault charge in the case.

The Findlay Police Department says Rayl stabbed the man following an argument. The incident happened in the 500 block of West Sandusky Street Monday.

Rayl told officers they should charge her boyfriend with assault. He suffered a non-life-threatening wound in the incident.

LB Officials Look Into Threatening Snapchat Message

4/19/17 – 5:08 A.M.

Liberty-Benton school officials took precautions but found no reason to keep a student out of school following concerns about a Snapchat message. The Courier reports a student sent a picture with a gun and a message about a potential fight Monday. Superintendent Larry Cook says the student told investigators the message had to do with a girlfriend and a boy in another school district.

The county prosecutor’s office could decide if charges are appropriate in the case. Cook says any punishment from the school is pending on what the prosecutor decides.

The boy’s father urged him to go to school Tuesday. A school resource officer searched the student and asked him questions before the boy attended classes. The school district notified parents about the issue on Monday.

BG Man Charged In Wife’s Overdose Death

4/19/17 – 4:27 A.M.

A trial date is pending in Wood County for a Bowling Green man accused of causing his wife’s overdose death. Keith Morris pleaded not guilty yesterday to involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide charges. Prosecutors say Morris gave Trina Morris the fentanyl-amphetamine mixture that killed her last year.
