Findlay Infant Killed In Wyandot County Crash

10/11/17 – 5:51 P.M.

A 20-month-old Findlay infant was killed in a crash south of Carey Tuesday morning. The Courier reports that a sheriff’s deputy found the crash around 5:45 a.m. on U.S. 23 at County Highway 97. 21-year-old Michelle Weatherholtz of Findlay was driving south on 23 when she slowed down to make a right turn. 43-year-old Frank Bauer of Hamilton rear-ended Weatherholtz’s car with his semitrailer.

The vehicle was pushed off the road by the impact. Wyandot County EMS took Michelle and two passengers, 21-year-old Cody Weatherholtz and her daughter Candase to Wyandot Memorial Hospital. Candase was pronounced dead at the hospital. Michelle was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for her injuries.

Bauer was not hurt in the accident. The Upper Sandusky Municipal Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing possible criminal charges. The crash remains under investigation.

Findlay Man Sentenced On Sex Charges

10/11/17 – 2:48 P.M.

A 60-year-old Findlay man will spend 30 months in prison after he pled guilty to sex charges. The Courier’s Eileen McClory said that Jeffery Julian is guilty of importuning.

Julien previously faced kidnapping and gross sexual imposition charges. They were dropped when he pled guilty in September. He will have to register as a sex offender.

Chicago Man Pleads Guilty To Findlay Manslaughter Charges

10/11/17 – 2:30 P.M.

A Chicago man pled guilty today to voluntary manslaughter for the murder of a Toledo man in Findlay. The Courier’s Eileen McClory said that 37-year-old Husam Coleman’s plea came as part of a deal.

McClory explained that there are two others allegedly involved in the murder.They are 27-year-old Jessica Kisseberth of Leipsic and 27-year-old Joseph Fleming of Toledo.

Coleman agreed to testify against Kisseberth and Fleming. Coleman shot and killed 31-year-old Marcus Alexander at the Econo Lodge motel on Emma Avenue in Findlay.

Early Voting Underway For November General Election

10/11/17 – 5:28 A.M.

If you didn’t register to vote in the November general election, it’s now too late. Tuesday was the final day to get registered. If you are a registered voter, you can cast your ballot now. Early in-person absentee voting starts today at the Hancock County Board of Elections.

Carey School Board Agrees To Buy Property

10/11/17 – 5:18 A.M.

The Carey school board agreed to buy more land during their Tuesday meeting. The Courier reports the district is paying $22,000 for 5.7 acres of property. The land is south of the old railroad bed property that the district already owns.

The district could use the area for a parking lot for the track and junior high football field.

Red Cross Needs Volunteers For Smoke Alarm Event

10/11/17 – 5:12 A.M.

The North Central Ohio chapter of the American Red Cross needs your help later this month. The agency is looking for volunteers to install smoke alarms in Findlay homes on October 21. They’ll send groups of people across neighborhoods in the northwest area of Findlay to install free smoke alarms for residents. They’ll also change the batteries in smoke alarms already installed.

The Red Cross needs around 100 volunteers for the effort. It’s the largest smoke alarm canvassing event the agency has ever attempted.

Local Overdose Quick Response Team Gets Grant Funding

10/11/17 – 5:04 A.M.

The Findlay Police Department is a step closer to providing another level of help to overdose survivors. Century Health reports the police department has received a grant from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to form a “quick response team.”

The agency says a quick response team will visit a survivor within 72 hours of an overdose. They’ll offer education and referrals to drug treatment agencies for assessment. The process also includes information about detoxification, ongoing addiction treatment, and aftercare. Hancock Public Health will also visit to offer further education and provide Naloxone.

The quick response team will have one city police officer and a quick response team coordinator from Century Health.

Century Health did not say how much the grant was for.

Council At Large Forum Shows Discussion Between Democratic And Republican Candidates

10/10/17 – 10:39 P.M.

There was a candidate forum for Findlay City Council At-Large candidates Tuesday. One of the topics was about the city saving money for a rainy day. The Republican candidates and current incumbents said that this is being done already.

Republicans on Cash Saving

Those speaking were Jeff Wobser, Tom Shindledecker, and Grant Russel respectively. The Democratic candidates said there should be practices of putting money back and using it to fix the community.

The speakers were Barb Lockard, Heidi Mercer, and Mary Harshfield in order.

AnotherĀ of the topics was the opioid epidemic. Democratic candidates said that the city should be doing more and having police carry the overdose-reversing drug Narcan.

The speakers were Heidi Mercer, Mary Harshfield, and Barb Lockard respectively. Their Republican counterparts said that there are reasons police officers don’t carry Narcan and that they should wait to see what happens at the state level.

The order of those speaking is Jeff Wobser, Tom Shindledecker, and Grant Russel. Shindledecker did clarify that Findlay Police would be getting Narcan soon.
