Findlay Police Department Conducting Annual Survey

Findlay Police Department is asking residents to provide feedback on how the department is doing. The annual survey can be done online through the department’s website or social media pages. You can get a paper copy at the Police Administration room in the Findlay Municipal Building.

The annual survey is multiple choice and takes about five minutes. Responses are being accepted until December 1.

Ohio Department Of Jobs And Family Services Urges Employers To Celebrate Hire-Veteran-Month

It’s Hire-A-Veteran Month and the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services wants to encourage employers to hire a vet. ODJFS Director Cynthia Dungey said that veterans have great work ethic and skills that excel in any work environment. The agency will also support employers through the Veterans Business Support Center. There employers and seek online, over-the-phone, or face-to-face help finding skilled veterans for jobs.

Hancock County Commissioners Moving On After Sales Tax Defeat

Voters shut down the sales tax issue in Hancock County last week and the commissioners are moving on. That’s according to Commissioner Brian Robertson.

Robertson said that the commissioners will focus on other projects for the time being.

He added that the voters will get to decide if the tax issue comes back up.

The tax issue was going to support the jail expansion so that the county could properly house all of the inmates.

Felony Indictments Are On The Rise In Hancock County

Indictments for felony crimes are on the rise in Hancock County. The Courier’s Eileen McClory said that the opioid epidemic is playing a key role.

She added that the county expects between 370 and 390 indictments by the end of the year. Last year there were only 355 indictments. There have been over 200 drug-related indictments this year.

McClory said that this has significantly increased the workload of the criminal justice system.

McClory added that many departments are looking to hire extra staff members to help with the workload. Some departments have already hired people to help out or put the workload onto unpaid interns.

Risingsun Native Killed By Train Near Chicago

11/13/17 – 7:09 A.M.

The daughter of a Wood County village council member died when a commuter train hit her in a Chicago suburb last week. ABC Channel 7 in Chicago reports the train hit 54-year-old Kelly Harris and her guide dog as Harris was walking to a CVS store down the street from her home. Harris was visually impaired.

Harris’ mother is Risingsun council member Rachel Dissauer.

Harris’ husband told Chicago media that Kelly was familiar with the crossing. He believes Harris was either disoriented or somehow got turned around.

Local Gas Prices Continue To Fall

Local gas prices continue to fall. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price in Findlay is down to $2.41 per gallon. That’s 15 cents cheaper than a week ago. Prices have fallen 26 cents since the beginning of November.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.49 per gallon today.

Local prices are below the state average, which now stands at $2.52 per gallon. That’s an 11 cent decline over the last seven days.

Three Injured In Crash At Hancock-Putnam County Line

11/13/17 – 5:33 A.M.

A two-van collision injured three people at the Hancock-Putnam County line Saturday afternoon. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports the collision happened at the intersection of U.S. 224 and County Road 16 around 1 p.m.

24-year-old Marrisa Schimmoeller of Columbus Grove was driving northbound on Road 16 when she stopped at the intersection. She didn’t see a westbound van driven by 58-year-old Diane Fuerst of Ottawa and pulled into the van’s path.

Hanco Ambulance took Schimmoeller to Blanchard Valley Hospital. Fuerst and her passenger went to the St. Rita’s Ambulatory Care Center in Glandorf.

Deputies cited Schimmoeller for failure to yield at a stop sign.

MPLX Names New VP

11/13/17 – 5:23 A.M.

MPLX has named a new vice president and controller. The Marathon energy and logistics subsidiary says C. Kristopher Hagedorn will move into the role on December 4. Hagedorn most recently served as the vice president and controller at CONSOL Energy.

Hagedorn is taking the place of Paula Rosson. She recently accepted the position of senior vice president and chief administrative officer of MPLX subsidiary MarkWest Energy Partners.

Putnam County Recycling Center Changing Location

11/13/17 – 5:17 A.M.

Putnam County residents will take recyclable items to a new location starting next month. WLIO-TV reports the county’s recycling bins are moving from Walmart to the Ag complex at 1205 East Second Street in Ottawa. County officials tell the TV station that keeping a safe, 24-hour recycling operation running is important to the county.

There are no changes coming for weekly recycling pickup in the county.
