Lane Shift On I-75 In Findlay Coming This Week

11/13/17 – 5:06 A.M.

The I-75 widening project in Findlay will close an exit for a few hours Tuesday. ODOT says they are shutting down the southbound exit to State Route 12 between midnight and 5 a.m. Tuesday. The southbound exit ramps at U.S. 224 remain closed as well. The only southbound ramps open in Findlay for the five hour period are at Hancock County Road 99 and the U.S. 68 and State Route 15 interchange.

Construction crews are shifting southbound traffic to new pavement next to the median wall.

ODOT says crews are closing the ramp from U.S. 68 and State Route 15 to southbound I-75 during certain times next week. Work will take place November 20-22 between 3 p.m. and 7 a.m. each day. Workers are placing bridge beams during that time.

Birchaven Village Makes List Of Best Nursing Homes

Birchaven Village made the list of Best Nursing Homes 2017-18 by U.S. News and World Report. This marks the third time the nursing home has made the list. In order to be named to the list, facilities must maintain at least a 4.5-star rating for ten months o the year.

Birchaven Village administrator Bridgett Mundy said that they are proud to receive the award for the third time. She added that their associates, physicians, and volunteers work hard to ensure the residents receive exceptional care.

University of Findlay Celebrates Veterans Day

The University of Findlay hosted a Veteran’s Day celebration featuring their new Veteran’s Honor Wall. Assistant professor and U.S. veteran Don Elswick said that the wall represents so much more than just the school.

He added that it is also a visual representation of the impact some of the graduates have had in the world. Elswick said the wall honors much more than just graduates.

Elswick said that the university is looking to add more names to the wall and make it larger.

 

Company Plans To Move Into Spec Building In Fostoria

It looks like a $1.2 million speculative building in Fostoria has attracted a tenant. The Review-Times reports FleetOhio Industrial Renovations has bought the 40,000 square-foot property on U.S. 23. Zoning Inspector Sandy Coleman tells the newspaper the company has also bought a plot of land next to the facility. Coleman says FleetOhio plans to build a 3,200 square-foot addition for office space.

The Community Improvement Corporation used a $1.2 million loan from the city’s Revolving Loan Fund last year to construct the building. It’s essentially a shell of a building to allow a tenant to customize it to their needs.

Two Restaurants Reopen After Sunday Storms

Things are getting closer to normal at two Findlay restaurants damaged by Sunday’s severe weather. GER Mongolian Grill and Ralphie’s on Trenton Avenue reopened their doors Thursday, despite some noticeable temporary changes. For instance, GER has plywood up where the windows were. The business had a sense of humor about the situation, posting “Please excuse the temporary wood-instead-of-windows situation” on their Facebook page.

Ralphie’s was able to reopen at 4 p.m. Thursday. Management wanted to make sure they were open in time for the Thursday night football game. Straight line winds ripped the facade off the front of the business Sunday.

Plans Approved For New Autoliv-Nissin Brake Facility In Findlay

11/10/17 – 5:24 A.M.

Autoliv Nissin Brake System’s plans to build a more than 194,000 square-foot warehouse and production facility are moving forward. The Findlay City Planning commission approved the plans during their Thursday meeting. The Courier reports the company plans to break ground on the new facility at the southwest corner of Bigelow Avenue and Bright Road in the next few weeks. The building could open in the fall of 2018.

Autoliv Nissin makes auto parts for several manufacturers, including Honda, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler.

Bids Opened For Dalzell Ditch Maintenance Project

11/10/17 – 5:16 A.M.

A company from Vickery, Ohio submitted the apparent low bid for the Dalzell Ditch maintenance project. The Courier reports the Great Lakes Demolition bid a little more than $455,000 on the project. The only other bid came from Helms and Sons Excavating of Findlay. It came in at just over $492,000.

Both bids came in under the initial estimate of $584,000. The Hancock County Commissioners will review Great Lakes Demolition’s submission before awarding the contract.

The ditch on Findlay’s north side has caused its share of flooding problems. Officials have talked about a maintenance project for around 21 years.

Property owners near the ditch are paying for 82 percent of the cost. Findlay is chipping in 13 percent. Liberty Township will pay 4 percent of the price and money from the state will cover 1 percent of the cost.

ODOT Preps Trucks For Upcoming Winter

ODOT District 1 is making sure their trucks are ready to go for the winter. Hancock County ODOT Manager Deidra Knoel says that they get mechanics to look the trucks over.

Knoel said that they check everything from safety equipment to the actual mechanisms on the truck.

She added that this check happens every year to ensure that they are ready before the snow hits the ground.

Three Teens Connected To Findlay Country Club Car Break Ins

11/09/17 – 4:03 P.M.

Charges have been requested against 3 underage teens for breaking into cars. Findlay Police Lt. Robert Ring said that the teens allegedly broke into unlocked cars at the Findlay Country Club. Charges for criminal trespassing in a vehicle were requested against the three teens.

The suspects are two 16-year-olds and a 15 -year-old. Ring said no arrests have been made yet but the case is being handled by the Hancock County Juvenile Prosecutors Office. They have not released the names of the suspects.
