Gas Prices Starting To Fall After Last Week’s Spike

Local gas prices are starting to recover after last week’s spike. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price in Findlay is $2.56 per gallon today. That’s down 11 cents from last week’s highest prices, but still about 10 cents higher than it was a week ago.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.64 per gallon today. That’s up nearly 20 cents over the last week.

The statewide average stands at $2.63 per gallon. That’s up 15 cents from last week, but down two cents from last week’s highest prices.

Leaf Pick Up Scheduled For Later This Month In Findlay

Findlay has set a date for leaf pick up this year. Crews will pick up leaves in biodegradable paper bags on November 20 starting at 7 a.m. Crews will not pick up plastic bags. You can find biodegradable bags at local hardware and building supply stores and some grocery stores.

If you don’t want to wait until November 20, you can drop off leaves at the green waste site at 350 West High Street at no cost. The site is open 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. It’s also open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Road Work Winding Down In Putnam County

ODOT has work planned in a couple locations in Putnam County this week. The agency says State Route 65 near County Road 5 in Leipsic remains closed until November 9. Crews are repairing a rail crossing in that area.

State Route 190 between Fort Jennings and U.S. 224 is now open to one lane of traffic. Crews have resurfaced the highway and are painting stripes on the road this week.

Evacuation Order For Highland Estates Lifted

11/6/17 – 4:59 A.M.

Findlay let residents of the Highland Estates mobile home park back into their homes late Sunday night. The city ordered the evacuation early in the evening after damage from severe weather caused several gas leaks in the mobile home park near Melrose and Crystal avenues.

The Red Cross opened a shelter at 50 North on East Melrose after the city issued the evacuation order. The shelter provided cots, food, and shelter to those effected by the storm.

Severe Weather Batters Northern Part Of Findlay

11/5/17 – 6:18 A.M.
UPDATE – 6:50 P.M.

Findlay officials are reporting widespread damage across the northern part of the city after severe weather made its way through the area. Mayor Lydia Mihalik says power lines and tree limbs are down across the city. Emergency responders are evacuating the Highland Estates Mobile Home Park on Crystal avenue due to a reported gas leak.

The American Red Cross is opening a shelter at the 50 North location on East Melrose for residents with storm-damaged homes. The shelter will allow pets if they are in a cage. The Hancock County Humane Society can take 10 dogs and 10 cats of residents that are evacuated.

Findlay City Schools are closed tomorrow due to storm damage.

Mihalik says the city’s dispatch center received a call about storm damage at GER Mongolian Grill near the Trenton Avenue Walmart around 4 p.m. Ten minutes later a resident in the Highland Estates Mobile Home Park reported a tornado touched down in the area and the city activated the tornado sirens. The National Weather Service did not issue a tornado warning for Findlay or Hancock County. WTOL-11 Meteorologist Ryan Wichman says straight-line winds could have caused the damage seen in the city.

American Electric Power reports several hundred people in Findlay and Hancock County are without power. The latest restoration estimate is 12 a.m. for some customers in the city.

BVHS Recognized For Patient Safety

11/03/17 – 4:24 P.M.

Blanchard Valley Hospital received an “A” grade for outstanding patient safety. The rating comes from the Fall 2017 Hospital Safety Score which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. Director of corporate quality and patient safety Roxanne Williams said it is an honor. She added that it is proof of the hospital’s commitment to patient-centered care.

Local Officials Respond To Robocall Made To Hancock County Residents

11/03/17 – 3:03 P.M.

A robocall was made to many Hancock County residents urging them to vote no on Issue 4. The caller said that the Hancock County Commissioners gave themselves a pay raise and that is why an increased sales tax is needed. During a press conference today, Prosecutor Phil Reigle said the commissioners cannot vote to give themselves raises.

Robertson explained that Issue 4 will raise funds for the jail expansion. It will also support a new building to house many different departments and the Probate and Juvenile Courts

Reigle said he wants to look further into election laws and talk to the secretary of state’s office before making an announcement on the legality of the call.

Colorado Murder Suspect Arrested In Henry County

11/3/17 – 7:20 A.M.

A Henry County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a Colorado murder suspect this week. A release from the office says a deputy stopped 37-year-old Karsten Persson of Montrose, Colorado on October 30 near Hamler. A K-9 unit alerted to drugs in the car, leading to Persson’s arrest.

The Montrose Police Department called the Henry County Sheriff’s Office later in the day. An officer let Henry County authorities know Persson is a suspect in an ongoing murder investigation.

Persson also faces a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
