Findlay Woman Arrested Following Thursday Drug Raid

10/19/18 – 4:56 A.M.

Findlay police officers arrested a woman following a drug search in the city early Thursday morning. Officers raided a home at 133 Woodley Terrace around 5:30 a.m. They took 28-year-old Raven Merschman into custody on a charge of possession of cocaine following the search.

Investigators say they found cocaine, marijuana, and cash. They also say they found a gun and other items that indicated drug sales were taking place in the home.

Prosecutors may charge Merschman with other counts at the end of the investigation.

Ball Corp And One Energy Building More Wind Turbines North Of Findlay

10/19/18 – 4:47 A.M.

You’ll see more wind turbines on Findlay’s north side in the future. North American Wind Power reports Ball Corporation and One Energy announced Thursday they will build three new turbines to help power the Ball Metal plant. One Energy will start construction before the end of the year.

The new structures, combined with the existing turbines, will provide around 30 percent of the factory’s power.

Ball and One Energy are also creating three more Megawatt Scholarships. The companies award the $5,000 scholarships to local high school students working toward a degree in a STEM field.

Findlay Man Suing The City Over Nuisance Property Complaints

10/19/18 – 4:38 A.M.

A Findlay man is suing the city. George Martens and his wife say that Findlay “unlawfully denied and/or encumbered” their right to rent and sell property. The Courier reports The suit stems from nuisance property complaints filed against him by the city. They are suing for $280,000 in damages.

There are four cases pending. The first is set to begin Monday morning in the U.S. District Court in Toledo.

Martens owns several rental properties around the city. He says the city has labeled building supplies as junk, when in fact he is using them to improve his properties.

Findlay officials filed four nuisance complaints about junk material on Marten’s properties in 2016. Those cases are still pending in Findlay Municipal Court.

Republican Wives Make Final Stop In Findlay

10/18/18 – 10 P.M.

Several wives of Ohio GOP candidates for state office stopped in Findlay Thursday evening. Tina Husted, wife of Lt. Governor candidate Jon Husted, said that the Republican party is coming together to help people.

Darlene Yost was also among the women that stopped. She is married to David Yost, who is running for Ohio Attorney General. She said that it is important to make sure people are getting out to vote.

Findlay was the final stop for the “Getting to the Heart of It” RV tour.

State Auditor Candidate Stops At WFIN To Talk About Campaign

10/18/18 – 5:16 P.M.

Ohio State Auditor candidate Keith Faber made a stop in Findlay to talk about his campaign Thursday. Faber said that the auditor will monitor how tax dollars are spent but more importantly work on saving money.

He said that expanding performance investments will hold agencies accountable and save money. He also addressed Issue 1 on the ballot this year. He said that he thinks Issue 1 will remove the court’s ability to keep people in treatment.

Issue 1 will turn 4th and 5th-degree felonies into misdemeanors. Faber said that this will allow people carrying dangerous drugs like fentanyl to escape jail time.

Downtown Road Closure Pushed Back A Week

10/18/18 – 10:54 A.M.

Findlay has pushed back a road closure in the downtown area. Engineering project manager Jeremy Kalb says the city will now close Main Street from Sandusky to Hardin Street on the morning of October 23. The city decided to make the change because of the closure of East Sandusky Street at the railroad tracks.

Crews are installing in-pavement lights on the midblock crosswalks.

Blanchard River Benching Construction To Start On October 29

10/18/18 – 10:37 A.M.

Local leaders and elected officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Blanchard River flood mitigation project earlier this month. Construction crews will start the physical work before October ends. Project Manager Steve Wilson says Helms and Sons Construction had to finalize some permits before they could begin. They’ll start removing riffle structures in the river on October 29.

Wilson updated the county commissioners on the project Thursday.

The project should wrap up next September.

Pandora Ball Field Light Project Moving Forward

10/18/18 – 7:40 A.M.

Pandora will install new lights at the baseball diamonds in the village park. The Putnam County Sentinel reports Mayor John Schlumbohm voted to break a tie to move forward the project at a recent council meeting. The village will pay $1,500 once the park committee raises around $12,000 to pay for the installation.

The Pandora-Gilboa school district donated the lights to the village after they installed new lights at the football field.

Arcadia Drops Bingo Fundraiser

10/18/18 – 7:31 A.M.

The Arcadia school district is saying no to bingo. The district is banning PTO-sponsored bingo fundraisers in the future. Elementary Principal Dave Golden says there are possible legal issues, and that it’s “not worth the hassle.”

Golden says they’ll look for another type of fundraiser.
