Firefighters Battle Mobile Home Blaze In Southern Hancock County

UPDATE – 10/16/18 – 5:24 A.M.

Firefighters in southern Hancock County responded to a mobile home fire early Monday morning. The fire happened around 1:40 a.m. at 19237 State Route 235, just south of State Route 103. The Jenera, Mount Cory, and Bluffton fire departments battled the blaze.

The fire caused around $20,000 in damage to the home. It appears the fire started in the bathroom. So far there’s no word on what started the blaze. No one was injured.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family who lived in the home.

Carey Man Injured In Quarry Accident

A workplace accident injured a man at the National Lime & Stone quarry in Carey last Friday. The Courier reports the family of Steve Adkins says a train car hit him, causing him to lose both legs above the knee. A Facebook post says he will “be having several major surgeries in the days, weeks and even months to come.”

Tab Adkins has created a Facebook Fundraiser called “Steve’s Road to Recovery.” They’ve also started a GoFundMe account called “Help Support Steve Adkins.”

Findlay Business Owner Joins Fight Against Human Trafficking

A Findlay business owner is taking part in the fight against human trafficking. Transport Topics News reports Sherri Garner Brumbaugh of Garner Transportation is part of a committee made up of members of the transportation industry looking at solutions to the problem.

The committee includes representatives from several transportation industries. The Combating Human Trafficking in Commercial Vehicles Act required the formation of the committee

Garner said her drivers use training materials produced by Truckers Against Trafficking. She tells the industry publication, “With any problem in our society, one person or one group can’t solve the problem. It has to be a collective effort.”

Family Fun Fest Aims To Raise Money For Law Enforcement Training

The Hancock County Citizen Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association will raise money for the Sheriff’s Office training facility this weekend. John Poole is with the association and says it’s very important to provide good training facilities for law enforcement…

The Family Fun Fest takes place at the Hancock County Fairgrounds 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. this Saturday. Admission is $15 for anyone 13 and over, $10 for ages 4-12, and free for kids under 3. The event will feature a kid’s costume contest, a hay ride, and games among other events.

Norfolk Southern To Repair Railroad Crossings Starting This Week

Railroad crossing repair work will close three crossings in Hancock County over the next few weeks. Norfolk Southern says they will close crossings at Putnam Street and County Road 9 from October 17th through October 23rd. They are also closing a crossing on Township Road 79 from the 18th to 24th.

Later this month Norfolk Southern will close crossings on Main Street in Rawson and Main Street in Mount Cory. Those closures are set for October 24th through the 31st.

Local Gas Prices Down To Start The Week

10/15/18 – 7:30 A.M.

Local gas prices are down as we start a new work week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.65 in Findlay. That’s down 17 cents from last Monday. Prices are 20 cents lower than they were a month ago.

The statewide average is $2.67 today. That a 15 cent decline over the last week.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.79 per gallon. That’s even with last Monday’s prices.

Teenager Killed In Allen County Crash

10/15/18 – 7:17 A.M.

A two-car crash killed a Lima teenager and injured five others in Allen County over the weekend. The State Highway Patrol reports the collision happened at the intersection of State Route 309 and Napoleon Road around 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

20-year-old Zackery Smith of Lima was driving on Napoleon Road and stopped at the intersection. He then pulled into the path of an SUV driven by 60-year-old Jackie Manns of Ada. The impact killed 19-year-old Austin Smith, who was a passenger in Zackery Smith’s car. Three other teens in the car suffered injuries. Manns suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation. The State Patrol says alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.

Parts Of South Main Street Closed In Findlay This Week

10/15/18 – 6:52 A.M.

Road work will close parts of South Main Street in Findlay this week. The city says crews are closing the road between Front and Main Cross streets on Tuesday. The closure moves to the area between Main Cross and Crawford streets Wednesday. You’ll see a closure on South Main from Sandusky Street to Hardin Street on Thursday.

The city will also restrict South Main to one lane between Lima and Front streets at times this week.

Infrastructure Projects Continue In Findlay

10/15/18 – 6:46 A.M.

Infrastructure improvements continue in Findlay this week. You’ll see waterline work on Concord Court from Parkside Place to Vincent Street. Similar work is taking place on Woodworth Drive between Fostoria Avenue and Glen Meadow, and Milton Avenue between Bernard and Hull avenues.

Storm sewer replacement continues on George Street and on Garfield Avenue between Crystal Avenue and the railroad tracks. The city is also replacing storm sewers on Midland and Allen avenues between Blanchard Street and the railroad tracks.

Resurfacing projects continue on Oakland Avenue between Main Street and Washington Avenue and on Stanley Avenue from France Street to the dead end.
