Findlay Fire Prevention Department Preparing People For Colder Months

It’s National Fire Prevention Week and Findlay Fire Fighters are spreading the word. The Findlay Fire Prevention Bureau’s Kevin Shenise said that they are focusing on look, listen, and learn.

Shenise said that you should also learn several ways out of your home or business in the event of a fire. You should also know where you need to go.

Shenise added that heating units will get turned on sooner rather than later.

Shenise said you should make sure everything is clean and functioning properly before you turn them on. He added that you’ll want to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors soon.

Data Network For Government Buildings Nearly Complete

Sneeze Causes Commercial Truck Rollover Crash

10/9/18 – 5:29 A.M.

A commercial truck ended up in a ditch east of Fostoria after its driver sneezed and lost control Monday afternoon. The State Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 3:10 p.m. on County Road 592 between County roads 11 and 31.

52-year-old Christopher Eckenrod of Norwalk was wearing a seatbelt and wasn’t hurt. Troopers cited him for failure to control.

The truck was carrying cylinders filled with gasses. Investigators say there were no leaks.

Carey School Board Talks About Upcoming Renewal Levy

Carey’s school board is urging residents to vote in favor of an upcoming renewal levy. The board talked about the 1 percent, five-year income tax that’s on the ballot on November 6 during their Monday meeting. Administrators say money from the tax pays for things like utilities, supplies, and salaries among other items.

The levy generates more than $1 million for district operations. The current five-year tax expires at the end of 2019. Voters first approved the tax in 2004 and have renewed it each time it has come up for a vote again.

Two Injured In Findlay Crash

10/9/18 – 5:04 A.M.

A two-car crash injured two Findlay residents Monday morning. The Findlay Police Department says 22-year-old Lyric McCloud of Findlay was driving south in the 300 block of North Blanchard Street around 7:10 a.m. when she drove into the Center Street intersection and hit a car driven by 50-year-old Larry Pahl of Findlay.

Hanco EMS treated both drivers at the scene of the crash. Officers cited McCloud for failure to obey a traffic control device.

Blanchard Valley Health Systems Creating Bleed Kits

10/08/18 – 4:06 P.M.

Blanchard Valley Health System’s Emergency and Trauma Services Department is working on “Stop The Bleed” Kits. The kits contain gauze, gloves, tourniquets, markers, and other materials used to stop uncontrollable bleeding. The department will use the kits to educate the community on how to stop a bleed. The kits will also be given to schools across Hancock County, major businesses, and law enforcement.

BVHS is doing this as part of the American College of Surgeons’ “Stop the Bleed” campaign.
