Three Injured In Three Car Crash

10/2/18 – 7:31 A.M.

A three-car crash injured three people on West Trenton Avenue in Findlay late Monday afternoon. The Findlay Police Department reports the collision happened in the 800 block of West Trenton around 5:30 p.m.

21-year-old Jasmin Bishop of Ottawa was driving west when she hit the back of a car driven by 25-year-old Amanda Gault of Findlay. Gault had stopped for traffic. Her car lurched forward and hit an SUV driven by 58-year-old Lisa Butler.

Butler, Gault, and a passenger in Gault’s car all wen to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment. Officers cited Bishop for failure to stop in an assured clear distance ahead.

Change Order Approved For Fostoria School Building Project

10/2/18 – 7:23 A.M.

The addition to the Fostoria Intermediate Elementary School will cost a little more than expected. The Review-Times reports the Fostoria School Board approved a change order for the building project Monday. Superintendent Andrew Sprang says crews installing the heating and cooling system at the intermediate building found that the air handler coils were in disrepair.

Sprang says if they didn’t replace the coils it could void the warranty on the new heating and cooling system.

The change will be included in the scope of work for the renovation project in an amount not to exceed $325,000.

Owens Community College Looking For Community Input

10/2/18 – 6:54 A.M.

Owens Community College is looking for community input for its new strategic plan. President Steve Robinson says the college needs a “unified sense of where we’re going.” Robinson says his priorities include financial stability and responsibility, as well as recruitment and retention of students. He adds he also wants the plan to reflect community interests.

They’ll hold a public meeting Wednesday at Fostoria Learning Center and Wednesday. Another follows on October 10 at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. Both meetings will serve pizza and refreshments at 5:30 p.m. Discussions start at 6 p.m. and should last around two hours.

Marathon Finalizes Merger With Andeavor

Andeavor is now a part of Marathon Petroleum. MPC closed on the $23.3 billion merger with Andeavor Monday. In a statement, Marathon CEO Gary Heminger said, “This transformative transaction is a significant milestone in our company’s more than 130-year history.” He added, “MPC is now the leading refining, midstream, and marketing company in the U.S., and is well-positioned for long-term growth and shareholder value creation.”

Heminger says they will share more information about their future plans at their December Investor Day.

Arlington Looking At Options To Keep Semi-Trucks Off Side Streets

10/2/18 – 5:13 A.M.

Arlington officials are getting frustrated with truck drivers ignoring detours around the village. The Main Street repair project has U.S 68 closed in town for the time being. Village council members talked about ways to keep drivers from using small side streets during Monday’s council meeting.

It’s possible the village could enter into a short-term agreement with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office to increase patrols in the area. However, Councilman Terry Huffman says he’s not interested in an agreement with the sheriff’s office.

Council members also heard a suggestion to consider adding more signs near the village limits.

Findlay Rotary Club Looks At Proposal To Fight The Opioid Epidemic

A committee from the Findlay Rotary Club is looking at ways to fight the opioid epidemic. Rotarian Bill Ruse explained that they want to bring “The MOMS Program”, the “Welcome To A New Life Program”, and Rotary’s “Saving Lives” under one roof.

Ruse explained that having these programs coordinated and mobile will make treatment an easier and friendlier option. The idea is still in its proposal phase but Ruse said he hopes to have it approved and implemented soon.

They have proposed a budget of $335,000.

Human Remains Found Along I-75 In Southern Hancock County

10/1/18 – 12:33 P.M.
UPDATED – 2:03 P.M.

The investigation continues today after human remains were found along I-75 near Rawson. The State Highway Patrol confirms that they received a report about remains along the interstate around 9:40 a.m. today.

A man mowing alongside the highway found a sleeping bag with a body inside of it. remains were found in an area near the tree line, far from the interstate. The Hancock County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene around 10 a.m.

Over a dozen law enforcement vehicles are at the scene and troopers are combing the area. They have the interstate down to one lane which is slowing down traffic.

No other details were immediately available. We’ll continue to follow this story as it develops.

University Of Findlay Lecture Series Focusing On Importance Of Family

The University of Findlay’s 2018-2019 Wilkin Event Series will focus on family dynamics. The free lecture series will discuss how family dynamics can be integral to your development, fulfillment, and success. Speakers include Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik, a panel of regional education and nonprofit representatives, and other experts.

The goal of the series is to find ways to strengthen all family structures through interpersonal relationship improvements and coping skills. The lectures will kick off this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union’s multipurpose room. The public is welcome to join.

Whirlpool Donates $50,000 To “Leader In Me” Program

A leadership program for Findlay City School students got a big boost Monday. Whirlpool donated $50,000 to the “Leader in Me” initiative. Superintendent Ed Kurt says the money will help pay for staff training and also benefit the students…

The Leader in Me program helps teach students in Findlay schools leadership skills as well as the importance of things like attendance and professionalism.

Kurt says they’ve implemented the program in five of the eight elementary schools as well as both middle schools. He adds they’ll have it in place in all the elementary schools within the next two years.

Cathy Gerber is with Whirlpool. She says the company sees a huge benefit of having the program in place and wanted to fund its success…

Gerber says the company started getting involved in the program about a year ago and appreciates the values it teaches.

Findlay Gas Prices Down Over The Last Week

10/1/18 – 7:26 A.M.

Gas prices in Findlay are down from a week ago. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.60 today. That’s down 18 cents from last Monday. That’s the lowest prices have been since late August.

The statewide average is $2.73 per gallon. That’s down six cents from last Monday.

Prices in Ottawa remain flat. Drivers report paying $2.79 per gallon. That’s even with last Monday’s prices.
