Cars Vandalized In Findlay Neighborhood

11/14/18 – 5:08 P.M.

Over a dozen cars had their tires slashed in a Findlay Neighborhood last week. The Findlay Police Department reports that the cars were mostly found along the 1400 block of Logan Avenue. There were some cars with their tires slashed at the corner of Greenwood Street and Byal Avenue as well.

In total, there were 15 cars that had at least 1 tire slashed. The crime is thought to have happened early last Thursday. There is no suspect at this moment.

More Information Released About Findlay Robbery Suspects

11/14/18 – 7:32 A.M.

The Findlay Police Department has released more information about the suspects in a robbery from late last month. The department posted security camera footage of one of the suspects on its Facebook page. Investigators say they are looking for a younger white man with brown hair and facial hair on his chin. He was wearing a gray or possibly camouflage Under Armour sweatshirt with a red logo. We have a picture of the man on our website.

Officers say he and another man in a blue Jeep robbed two people at the corner of Broad and Rockwell avenues on October 31. The victims said the suspects said they had a weapon, but never showed it. The suspects allegedly beat up the victims before taking their wallets and then driving away in the blue Jeep.

ONU Professor Wins National Award

An Ohio Northern University pharmacy professor recently won a national award. Amy Fanous received the Next Generation Pharmacist 2018 Civic Leader award for her efforts to launch the ONU HealthWise mobile clinic. The clinic travels to smaller towns in Hardin County where there is less access to healthcare.

Pharmacists on the bus meet with patients to ask questions, check blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol. They also screen for osteoporosis and skin cancer.

Fanous says the mobile clinic is an “innovative practice model for pharmacy.” She adds while there are other mobile clinics in other communities, this is the only one that she knows of that is pharmacist-directed.

Three Area Residents Accused Of Stealing Cell Phones

11/14/18 – 5:32 A.M.

The Hancock County grand jury has indicted three people for allegedly stealing cellphones from Verizon Radio Hospital in Findlay. 34-year-old Kyle Traxler of Findlay, 23-year-old Jacob Stechshulte of Ottawa, and 26-year-old Cortney Watt of Lafayette each face a count of grand theft.

Investigators say the trio stole cellphones valued between $7,500 and $150,000. The crimes allegedly happened between November of 2017 and January of this year.

Hancock Park District Awards $96,000 In Grant Money

The Hancock Park District awarded $96,000 in grants during their Tuesday meeting. The largest individual grant was for more than $12,500 for Van Buren. The village will use the money to finish a parking lot expansion, buy a Hoadley Park sign, and refurbish a baseball diamond.

Mount Cory is getting more than $11,500 for new tables, chairs, table carts, and chair carts for the community building. The village will also buy trash cans with lids for the park.

Driver Killed In High-Speed Chase Identified

11/14/18 – 5:16 A.M.

The State Highway Patrol has identified the Mount Blanchard man killed in a crash following a high-speed chase from over the past weekend. 33-year-old Matthew Stuard died after his car hit two utility poles on Blanchard Avenue near Fremont Avenue late Saturday night. The patrol says his passenger, 44-year-old Juan Palacios of Findlay, received treatment at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

The chase started when a trooper clocked Stuard going more than 20 miles-per-hour over the speed limit on West Main Cross Street near I-75. Stuard sped away and eventually crashed, causing his car to catch fire. Troopers and Findlay Police officers couldn’t get Stuard out of the car until they extinguished the fire.

Liberty-Benton Looking At Possible Building Options

11/14/18 – 5:06 A.M.

Officials from the Liberty-Benton school district gave a presentation about future building options Tuesday night. The options presented included renovating and adding on to the current elementary and middle school buildings and renovating the high school or building a new pre-K through 8th-grade school and renovating the high school. They also include building a new pre-K through 5th-grade school and adding onto and renovating the high school to make it 6th-grade through 12th-grade facility, or renovating and adding onto the current high school to make it pre-K through 12th-grade.

The school district’s share of each plan ranges from $18.7 to $19.9 million. They also talked about doing nothing, saying the maintenance costs would total between $13.9 and $18.1 million.

The school is giving another presentation Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Benton Ridge council hall. The following day the district will post an online survey for residents to answer. They’ll also have paper copies at all offices in the district.

City Mission Of Findlay Talks About Homelessness In Findlay

11/13/18 – 6:30 P.M.

It’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and, although you may not see it, Hancock County has over 800 homeless people looking for shelter. That’s according to the City Mission of Findlay executive director Joy Barger who said that homelessness doesn’t always look like it’s stereotyped.
