Businesses Should Focus On Creating Veteran Culture When Hiring Veterans

The Findlay Rotary Club got a presentation on the importance of having a veteran-friendly culture at a business. HR Navigator, LLC founder Meghan Michael explained that you want to make sure make veteran employees comfortable.

Michael explained that this culture could include a strict schedule, ways to climb in the company, and similar compensation to what they got in the military. She added that veterans often stick to jobs that provide a suitable culture.

I-75 Flyover Ramp To Open This Week

A new exit ramp from I-75 to U.S. 68 and State Route 15 is opening this week. ODOT says the ramp that takes southbound interstate traffic to U.S. 68 and State Route 15 should open today or tomorrow. They refer to the exit as a “flyover ramp” because it takes exiting southbound traffic over I-75 and to U.S. 68 and Route 15.

For now, the ramp will only take traffic to U.S. 68 and Route 15. When the project finishes there will be an exit to Lima Avenue.

ODOT says once the flyover ramp opens, the ramp from U.S 68 and Route 15 to southbound I-75 will close. It will remain closed until the project finishes in the fall of 2020.

Local Gas Prices Continue Decline

Local gas prices continue to slide. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay today is $2.38. That’s down 11 cents from last Monday. Prices are the lowest they’ve been since late March.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.39 per gallon. That’s a 13 cent decline over the last week.

Local prices are lower than the statewide average, which sits at $2.40 per gallon today. That’s down 11 cents over the last week.

Forest Property Open For Leaf Drop Off

Forest residents can get rid of their leaves at a village-owned property. WKTN radio reports the village is leaving the entry gate to a property on County Road 20 open the next few weeks for people to get rid of leaves and tree branches.

You can drop off leaves in paper bags, but not in plastic bags. The site is under video surveillance. It is only for yard waste.

Harvest Dinner Will Benefit Food Pantries

The Bluffton University Nutrition Association is holding its annual Harvest Dinner later this week. The dinner benefits the Bluffton Community Assistance Corporation and the Churches United Pantry in Lima. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bluffton Middle School cafeteria.

This year’s dinner will feature a farm-to-table concept. Food used for the dinner will include produce from a garden maintained by dietetics faculty and students.

Historic Barn Tour Earns State Recognition

The Hancock Historical Museum’s historic barn tour event has earned a 2018 Scenic Ohio Award. The award honors people and organizations that conserve and preserve Ohio’s scenic resources.

Representatives from the museum will be at an awards ceremony this Friday at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center at Ohio State University.

Local Support Group For Parents With Special Needs Children Gets Tax Exempt Status

A local group that aims to help the parents of children with special needs recently received tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status. Special Needs Parent Support of Northwest Ohio is now looking for your help to expand their mission.

The group meets from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at Stonebridge Church. Antonia Faisant helped organize the group. She says around 40 to 70 people attend each month.

Faisant says they can now accept donations to help provide more opportunities to parents. That includes providing respite opportunities, wellness getaways, educational meetings, social and recreational opportunities, and financial help.

Only One New Road Project In Hancock County This Week

ODOT only has one new road project in Hancock County on their calendar this week. The agency says they’ll close State Route 613 between Railroad Street and Township Road 218 in Van Buren for railroad crossing repairs. They expect the work to take about a week.

The detour will include taking State Route 18 and I-75 to get back to Route 613.

Putnam County Couple Honored For Service To Habitat For Humanity

11/12/18 – 5:30 A.M.

Habitat for Humanity recently honored an Ottawa couple. The Putnam County Sentinel reports the Ohio Habitat for Humanity gave Chas and Beth Myers a lifetime achievement award at a ceremony in Columbus. The organization says they are the “face of the affiliate in local communities.”

Paul Ryan is the executive director for Ohio Habitat for Humanity. He says Chas and Beth putting in several hours of leg work to set up a Habitat chapter in Putnam County. They also set up policies for recruiting board members when they helped establish the agency in 2009.

The Putnam County Habitat for Humanity chapter has built 10 new homes and repaired 12 others.
