Fire Destroys Airport Hangar In Fostoria

11/12/18 – 5:19 A.M.

So far there’s no word on what caused a fire in a hangar at the Fostoria Metro Airport from over the weekend. Several fire departments responded to the airport around 9 p.m. Saturday. Fostoria Fire Division Chief Brian Herbert says the hangar workshop was already consumed by flames when they arrived. Firefighters entered through an office to make sure no one was inside but had to back out of the building quickly.

The blaze destroyed two airplanes and several motorcycles.

The Kansas, Risingsun, Bascom, Tiffin, and Findlay fire departments all provided help. Firefighters from Findlay manned a Fostoria fire station while the Fostoria firefighters battled the flames.

Mount Blanchard Man Dies Following Car Chase In Findlay

11/12/18 – 5:05 A.M.

A State Highway Patrol chase ended with a fatal crash in Findlay over the weekend. The patrol says the incident began when troopers tried to pull over a man near the State Route 12 exit around 11:20 p.m. Saturday night. The man sped away, and five minutes later hit a utility pole at the intersection of Blanchard and Fremont avenues.

Media reports say a 33-year-old man from Mount Blanchard died in the crash. His passenger, a 44-year-old Findlay woman, was flown by medical helicopter to a Toledo hospital.

Veterans Day Activities Coming Up On Sunday

Sunday is Veterans Day and there are a few ways you can honor those who have served. The Hancock Historical Museum will be having a presentation to teach about the county’s history of military service. This event will have refreshments and is free for veterans. It will be from 1 – 4:30 p.m. at the museum this Sunday.

There will also be a parade to celebrate our veterans. The parade will start On Main Street and end at the Veteran Memorial on Center Street. The parade kicks off at 2 p.m.

Food Boxes Available In Pandora

The Pandora-Gilboa School District is taking requests for family food boxes until Thursday. You can make a request for a box by calling Grace Mennonite Church at 419-384-3038.

The boxes will be available for pickup from 9-11 a.m. on November 17 at the church.

State Patrol Hosting Online Survey

During the next month, you can let the Ohio State Highway Patrol know about your traffic safety concerns and how they are doing. The State Highway Patrol is conducting an online survey to address the questions. The 2018 Public Survey is anonymous and takes approximately five minutes to complete.

The survey asks specific questions related to traffic safety issues and previous interactions with OSHP employees. You can take the survey at statepatrol.ohio.gov

Fostoria Looking At Overtime Costs

The Fostoria Finance Committee talked about overtime costs during their Thursday meeting. The committee discussed how the Fostoria Fire Departments overtime for the year grew from over $214,800 on October 25 to over $238,400 on November 8. Finance Committee chairperson John Schuld explained that this is an increase of over $23,000 from one payroll to the next.

Safety Service Director Deb Hellman said the fire department’s jump in overtime costs included trainings that don’t happen often. Crews put in extra hours for confined space training last week, as well as fire inspector training for three lieutenants. The fire inspector class is a one-time thing for the new lieutenants, and the confined space training takes place every other year.

McComb Man Faces Negligent Homicide Charge For Findlay Stabbing

A McComb man has been charged for a Findlay stabbing that happened in July. The Courier reports that Michael J. Jones faces a negligent homicide charge for the stabbing death of 19-year-old Tyler Wilson. Tyler’s mother Kristy Wilson said, “Although I don’t think the charge is what he should have been charged with, I’m glad to see the city is attempting to give him consequences for his actions.”

A Hancock Grand Jury declined to indict an unnamed suspect on murder charges in September. Hancock County Prosecutor Phil Reigle handed the case to Findlay Law Director Don Rasmussen for the possible negligent homicide charge.

Negligent Homicide is a first-degree misdemeanor.

Bluffton Hosting A Trivia Night To Raise Money For The Annual Blaze Of Lights

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a team trivia fundraiser for Blaze of Lights. The event will feature 16 teams of up to 8 people. The cost is $150 per team. It will take place from 7-9 p.m. on November 14 at the Bluffton Golf Club. Participants will also be invited to the Business After Hours event starting at 5 prior to the event.

The winners will be named the first-ever Blaze Team Trivia winners and get $250 in Bluffton Bucks. You can call organizer and BACC board member Derek Dukes at 419-358-6966 to register.

University Of Findlay Celebrating Veterans Day Tomorrow

The University of Findlay will have a Veterans Day Observance this Friday. The event will take place at 8 a.m. at the Veterans’ Honor Wall in the Center for Student Life and College of Business. Lt. Col. James Woodward is the special guest speaker. He was named the 2018 Hancock County Veteran of the Year.

A reading of the names on the UF Veterans’ Honor Wall will occur immediately following the program.

U.S. 68 Through Arlington Reopened

Business owners in Arlington are finally seeing some relief. U.S. 68 through the village is now back open. It was closed for several months as part of the Main Street reconstruction project. The closure had hurt several businesses who were closed off to people passing through town.
