Putnam County Officials Discuss Recycling Costs

11/8/18 – 5:34 A.M.

Putnam County officials want to bring down recycling costs. The Putnam County Sentinel reports the county commissioners recently talked about the issue. Right now it costs between $105,000 and $150,000 per year to run recycling operations. The commissioners would like to see that drop below $100,000 because there aren’t many good markets for recyclable materials right now.

The group talked about reworking how they sort and bail recyclables. The biggest issue is that the best configuration runs into space already leased by a private business.

The group agreed to continue to work toward a solution to keep plastics out of the landfill and to reduce costs.
