Boil Water Advisory Issued In Fostoria Avenue Area

12/11/18 – 5:02 A.M.

A water main repair project has caused a boil water advisory for several homes. The water distribution department says the affected homes are in the 1400, 1500, and 1600 blocks of Fostoria Avenue. All of Woodside Drive and 1146 Plaza Street are also included in the advisory.

If you live in the advisory area you should boil your water for at least one minute before using it.

Treasurer-Elect Sprague Picks Senior Staff Members

Ohio Treasurer-elect Robert Sprague of Findlay is putting together his senior staff members. Sprague recently announced several appointments. Jody Foltyn will serve as Sprague’s chief of staff. Foltyn worked with Capital Strategies Group for nearly 13 years.

State Senator Bill Beagle will be Sprague’s senior director of policy and program administration. He’s wrapping up his second term as a state senator in Ohio’s 5th District.

Sprague tapped Michael Lenzo as chief legal counsel. He’s been the Ohio House Republican Caucus’ chief legal counsel for nearly a decade.

Sam Rossi will serve as director of communications, and Kim Flash will work as the chief administrative officer.

Findlay Digital Academy Ranks Well According To State Report Card

12-12-18 – 8:42 P.M.

The Findlay Digital Academy fared well according to the state report card. The drop-out recovery school didn’t do as well as they have in the past but FDA’s Sandy White said that this is because of lower scores in the end of course exams. Despite this, the school still got the highest score across the state. They also made excellent marks in graduation rates when compared to other schools.

OSU Extension Covers Healthy Food Substitutes

You can still have great holiday food while keeping it healthy according to the Hancock County OSU Extension. You can make the same food but use nutmeg and cinnamon instead of sugar to make it healthier and add some extra flavor. Whole grains can be used instead of refined grains when you’re making rolls or pasta.

Common Sense Initiative Discussed In Findlay

Colquitt says businesses don’t always get what they want out of the process, but at the very least get a better idea of how to meet state regulations.

Colquitt adds his office isn’t trying to do away with regulation either. He says they are looking to give stakeholders a chance to have a voice in the process.

Area Mental Health Organization Seeks Donations For Support Centers

A local organization dedicated to mental health is looking for some donations this Christmas season. Focus has needs for their recovery center, recovery houses, and teen center.

The recovery center could use coffee and coffee filters, art supplies, and cleaning supplies.

The recovery homes need bed pillows, twin sheet sets, blankets, mattress pads, towels and washcloths among several other items.

The teen center needs everything from supplies for arts and crafts activities to desktop computers.

University Of Findlay Board Of Trustees Names New Member

The University of Findlay has a new board of trustees member. The board recently voted to approve Tod Beckett to an open position. He follows in the footsteps of his father, veterinarian C. Richard Beckett in serving as a UF board member.

Tod Beckett is a practicing veterinarian. In 1990 Dr. Beckett founded the first Columbus, Ohio area Animal Care Center with his father. He now serves as medical director for VCA Mill Run and VCA Sawmill Animal Hospitals, overseeing nine veterinarians and more than 80 support staff. He also recently served as the 2017-2018 Ohio Veterinary Medical Association president.

Beckett’s father helped found the pre-veterinary medicine and equestrian studies programs at UF more than three decades ago.

North Baltimore Names New Village Administrator

North Baltimore has a new village administrator. Mayor Janet Goldner says Michael Brillhart will start on December 18. Brillhart recently was a self-employed executive planning consultant. Before that he managed day-to-day operations for the board of commissioners in Camden, North Carolina.

He takes the place of Allyson Murray. She stepped down in September to take a job in Westerville.

Two Arrested Following Fight At Fostoria Junior/Senior High School

12/10/18 – 6:43 A.M.

A fight at Fostoria Junior/Senior High School led to two arrests late last week. Police Chief Keith Loreno says the incident started around 12:30 p.m. Friday when one group of students started a confrontation with another group. Loreno says a school resource officer was on the scene and called for backup.

The fight caused a few non-life-threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

Local Gas Prices Back Above $2 Per Gallon Mark

12/10/18 – 5:35 A.M.

Local gas prices are up from a week ago. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $2.19 today. That’s a 20 cent jump from last Monday.

Ottawa drivers also report paying $2.19 per gallon today. That’s an 11 cent increase over the last seven days.

Local prices are slightly above the state average, which stands at $2.18 per gallon. That’s up seven cents from a week ago.
