Pedestrian Hit By Car In Findlay Wednesday

12/7/18 – 6:43 A.M.

A car hit a pedestrian in Findlay Wednesday morning. The police department says the collision happened at the intersection of Lake Cascades Parkway and North Lake Court around 6 a.m.

78-year-old Barry Cohen was walking across North Lake Court when a car driven by 49-year-old Cheryl Holtzberger of Forest hit him. Holtzberger was trying to turn left from Lake Cascades Parkway.

Hanco EMS took Cohen to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of incapacitating injuries.

Findlay Woman Injured In Overpass Crash

12/7/18 – 5:31 A.M.

A two-car crash injured a Findlay woman late Thursday afternoon. The Findlay Police Department reports the crash happened on the East Trenton Avenue overpass around 5:45 p.m.

48-year-old Jennifer Stump was driving west on the bridge when she lost control. Her SUV slid onto the sidewalk, hit a concrete wall, and then slid in front of a car driven by 41-year-old Nina Proehl of Findlay. Proehl was driving the same direction but couldn’t stop in time.

Hanco EMS took Proehl’s passenger, 18-year-old Caley Proehl, to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment. Officers cited Stump for operating a vehicle without reasonable control. They also cited Proehl for failure to stop in the assured clear distance ahead.

Putnam County YMCA Has New CEO

The Putnam County YMCA has a new CEO. The Lima News reports Ron Fricke started in the position on December 3. He takes the place of Lori Fetherolf.

Fricke will help raise money for YMCA programs and will oversee day-to-day operations for the organization.

Fricke previously served as the deputy director of the Toledo Zoo.

Pictures Of Angel Tree Thieves Released

12/7/18 – 5:13 A.M.

The Findlay Police Department has released surveillance photos of the two men who stole a Salvation Army “Angel Tree” early Sunday morning. Around 4:05 a.m. a stocky white man with a beard and shoulder-length hair walked into the Tiffin Avenue Walmart and dragged the tree out. He was wearing an Ohio State football jersey with the number 5 on it and a black stocking cap.

A second man stood watch at the entrance of the store. He’s described as black and was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. They left the store in a white vehicle, possibly a Honda.

The tree has tags that list items like toys or clothes that can you can buy and turn over to the Salvation Army to distribute to families in need.

Hancock County Budget Nearly Ready

12/7/18 – 5:03 A.M.

The Hancock County Commissioners are close to finalizing a 2019 budget. County Auditor Charity Rauschenberg says the budget commission has approved $25.7 million in revenue for next year. The county has budgeted $23.6 million. That leaves around $2.1 million in unappropriated funds.

The county expects to have a $2.5 million carryover into next year to pay for early 2019 expenses. Carryover balances help pay for items like payroll until the state releases sales tax revenue back to the county.

Grants Available For Hancock County Events In 2019

The Hancock County Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering several grant programs to support local events in 2019. They will have two informational meetings for people to learn more about these programs. Both meetings will be held in the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts Fisher/Wall Art Gallery. The first meeting will be at 9 a.m. on December 12. The second will be at 3 p.m. on December 13.

Hancock County Humane Society Looking For Donations This Season

The Humane Society and SPCA of Hancock County is looking for donations this holiday season. The humane society reports that volunteer programs have been greatly expanded over the years. They are looking for donations of bleach, rawhide chews, leashes/collars, animal food, and household cleaning items to help. This will help programs such as the Pet Pal and Share-A-Pet programs

The Pet Pal program ensures that all dogs are walked at least once per day, Mondays through Saturdays. Pet Pal volunteers also socialize cats available for adoption. Share-A-Pet volunteers take animals currently available for adoption to visit the residents of nursing and adult care facilities in Hancock County.

Candidate Petitions Out For Findlay Mayor Seat

12/06/18 – 3:23 P.M.

It’s still early but two people have taken out petitions to be candidates for Findlay Mayor. Findlay resident Brandon Dugger and current first ward Councilwoman Holly Frische are looking for the seat. Mayor Lydia Mihalik stated, “I can confirm I have not circulated petitions yet but that I’ll be ready for re-election announcements at the appropriate time.”

All three possible candidates are Republican. You’ll be seeing campaign announcements in the future, and Dugger has a town hall coming up this Saturday. That will be at 3 p.m. at Fergies.

The deadline to file petitions for candidacy is February 6.

Fostoria Toy Drive Needs Help To Hit Goals

12/6/18 – 5:26 A.M.

Organizers of a toy drive in Fostoria are hoping people will step up to donate in the closing days of the event. The Review-Times reports the Fostoria Christmas For Every Child/Toys For Tots program needs more than 200 toys to hit their goal. The group is trying to serve more than 500 Fostoria children from low-income families this year.

Organizer Amber Herbert says they especially need more toys for children between 0 and 2 years old and kids between 9 and 12. Herbert says they are looking for gifts in the $15 to $20 range.

There are several donation points around Fostoria, including at the Review-Times offices.

Truck Driver Injured In Tuesday Night Crash

12/6/18 – 5:15 A.M.

A collision between two semi trucks injured a Columbus man in Findlay Tuesday night. The State Highway Patrol reports the crash happened in the northbound lanes near the State Route 12 exit around 11:30 p.m.

A truck driven by 62-year-old Matthew Haberek of New York started to move out of its lane and hit a truck driven by 36-year-old Michael Bush II of Columbus.

Hanco EMS took Bush to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Troopers cited Haberek for a marked lanes violation.
