Findlay Gas Prices Dropping Below $2 Mark

Gas prices have dropped below $2 per gallon in Findlay. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $1.99 today. That’s down 15 cents from a week ago. Prices haven’t been below $2 in our area since February of 2017.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.08 per gallon today. That’s down 18 cents over the last week.

Local prices are below the state average, which is $2.11 per gallon. The state average is down 15 cents since last Monday.

Former President George H.W. Bush Made Several Stops In Findlay

Former President George H.W. Bush passed away Friday in Texas at the age of 94. Bush made several visits to Findlay during and after his time in public office.

As vice president, Bush and his wife Barbara first stopped in Findlay to dedicate the Tennyson Guy­er Memorial at what was then Findlay College. Guyer was a Findlay native and a U.S. representative from 1973 to 1981.

Bush campaigned for president in Findlay in 1988 at a large rally in downtown. He also helped launch the city’s first Flag City USA celebration that day.

The 1992 presidential campaign brought Bush to Findlay Machine & Tool in the Tall Timbers Industrial Center in August. The following month he went through Findlay as part of the “Spirit of America” campaign train.

Bush made a final stop in Findlay in 1998 to raise money for then Ohio governor George Voinovich.

Fatal November High-Speed Chase Hit Speeds Of 90 MPH In Findlay

UPDATE – 6:42 A.M. (Corrects 1st paragraph to indicate Stuard was driving more than 20 mph over the speed limit)

The State Highway Patrol has released more details about a November fatal car chase. Records given to the Courier show the pursuit hit more than 90 miles-per-hour a couple of times.

Trooper Damian Rose tried to pull over 33-year-old Matthew Stuard of Mount Blanchard for driving more than 20 miles-per-hour over the speed limit on West Main Cross Street near I-75 on November 10. Stuard sped away, hitting speeds of more than 90 miles-per-hour on Western Avenue and Lake Cascades Parkway. He hit two utility poles just before 11:30 p.m.

Sparks rained down from the overhead power lines, and the car caught on fire. Video of the incident shows several troopers trying to put out the flames with fire extinguishers.

The crash took the lives of Stuard and his passenger, 44-year-old Juan Palacios.

McComb Celebrates State Football Championship

12/3/18 – 5:12 A.M.

Members of the McComb Panthers football team will go to class as state champions today. The team won the Division VII state championship game Saturday, besting the Glouster Trimble Tomcats 28-3 on a rainy day in Canton. The victory represents McComb’s first state title since 1983.

The Panther defense led the way, holding all-state running back Max Hooper to 20 yards on 10 carries.

The Panthers beat Patrick Henry, Leipsic, Edgerton, and Fort Loramie en route to getting to Saturday’s title game.

Search Underway For Missing BGSU Student

12/3/18 – 4:28 A.M.

The search is underway for a missing Bowling Green State University student. University officials say 18-year-old Jacob Bromm hasn’t been seen or heard from since November 20th. Bromm reportedly told friends he was going to fly out west. Investigators don’t think Bromm is in distress.
