Findlay-Hancock County Public Library Provides Update On SummerREAD and Upcoming Events

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is celebrating a universe of stories through the SummerREAD program. Executive Director Jeff Winkle said that it has been successful so far…

Winkle said that they are having several events throughout July to keep people informed and educated. One event will be an Astronomy 101 class where people can learn about the telescopes available for loan through the library. That will be on July 8. There will also be events and classes on food safety, kids and medicine, and Tuesday Crafternoons in Arlington where kids can come take part in arts and crafts.

Hancock County Commissioners Approve Foster Care Program

The Hancock County Commissioners approved a program to help children in foster care. The commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding between the county JFS and the Cleveland-based Kinnect organization. This allows the county to take part in the “30 Days to Family Ohio”.

The program is an intervention developed by the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition to increase the number of children placed with relatives when they enter the foster care system. The program also seeks to ensure natural and community supports are in place to promote stability for the child.

Only 14 counties in Ohio offer the program. This includes Allen and Wood Counties.

University of Findlay Masters Program Earns National Ranking

BestColleges.com ranked the University of Findlay’s Master in Science Education programs among the best in the nation for 2019. The program ranked 10th out of the 20 institutions that were ranked. The ranking was based on factors like academic quality, affordability, and online competency.

The program is designed to help students met the demand for science teachers.

Mazza Museum Summer Conference Welcomes 9 Authors And Artists

The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum will be filled with authors an artists soon. Nine guests will be presenters during the annual Summer Conference which will take place July 15-17. The three-day event will feature educational presentations from the guests and daily breakout sessions from in-service teachers and librarians on techniques for using picture books in fun and educational ways.
