Ohio State Tops First College Football Playoff Rankings Of The Season

The Ohio State Buckeyes are in the number one spot in the first round of the 2019 College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday night.

It is the first time OSU has been given the top spot in the rankings following a previous high of number three in 2016.

Selection committee chairman Rob Mullens said Ohio State was chosen number one for their consistently high level of performance every week.

Rounding out the top four behind the Buckeyes are LSU at number two, Alabama at number three, and Penn State at number four.

Ohio State hosts Maryland on Saturday and will play Penn State on November 23rd.

Election Results Are In, Muryn Wins Mayoral Seat

We have the results from the Hancock County Board of Elections for the general election.

Mayor Christina Muryn has earned a full four years as Findlay’s mayor. She won with 3,341 votes compared to Chad Benshoter’s 2,052 votes.

Muryn was appointed Mayor in February to replace Lydia Mihalik who joined Governor DeWine’s cabinet as director of the Development Services Agency,
and in May she won the Republican Party mayoral primary.

In the Findlay City Council at Large race, incumbents Jeff Wobser, Tom Shindledecker, and Grant Russel got 3,711, 3,542, and 3,243 votes respectively retaining their seats on Findlay City Council. They beat challenger Abigail Hefflinger who had 2,566 votes.

Voters put down the income tax levy for Van Buren School District but not by much. There are 987 votes against the levy and 784 for it.

Riverdale and Liberty Benton School Districts saw positive responses for their income tax levies. Riverdale got 348 votes for and only 139 against. Liberty Benton received 959 votes for the levy and 414 against.

Putnam County Robbery Suspect Arrested In Lucas County

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reports that the man that allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint and stole her car has been caught.

The Lucas County Sheriff’s Office reports 39-year-old James Phillips was arrested around 11:45 Tuesday morning after he turned himself in.

James is currently being held at the Lucas County Jail until he can be transported to the Putnam County Jail.

14th Annual Helping Hands Food Drive Kicks Off Wednesday

The University of Findlay is seeking your help Wednesday during the annual Helping Hands’ Food Drive.

Last year, the food drive crushed their goal, donating over 111,000 pounds of food to CHOPIN Hall.

This year, UF is trying to raise 115,000 pounds of food during the 12-hour event.

Drop-off sites will be available at the Alumni Memorial Union and the Henderson Dining Hall from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm and at both Walmarts from 11 am to 7 pm.

You can drop off non-perishable food, such as peanut butter and canned vegetables, which haven’t passed their expiration dates.

Highway Bridge Over Lima Avenue Opens, Work Continues On Roundabouts

The Interstate 75 project through Findlay has taken another big step towards completion.

Traffic on U.S. 68/State Route 15 is now traveling on the new bridge over Lima Avenue.

The switch from the temporary pavement to the new bridge will allow for additional work on the Lima Avenue roundabouts below.

ODOT officials are still hoping to have Lima Avenue open by the end of this year.

Meantime, the Lima Avenue ramp to U.S. 68/State Route 15 southbound will close on Wednesday, November 6th for two days to complete pavement on the shoulder of the ramp.

Traffic will be detoured on to County Road 9, State Route 12, Interstate 75 and onto U.S. 68/State Route 15.

The entire Interstate 75 reconstruction and widening project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

Ohio Bill Aims To Keep Daylight Saving Time Year-Round

Ohio lawmakers are considering a bill which if approved would keep Daylight Saving Time year-round in the state.

The Ohio Senate released details over the weekend of the legislation being proposed called the Sunshine Protection Act.

The measure is similar to a law passed in Florida, and would ultimately need approval from the U.S. Congress to go into effect.

Several states have passed laws ending the practice of changing clocks twice a year, but nothing can be enacted without a change at the federal level to the Uniform Time Act of 1966.

Ohio Governor Calling For Review Of State’s Foster Care System

(ONN) – Governor Mike DeWine is calling for a review of the state’s foster care system saying the opioid crisis is adding more children to its rolls.

DeWine spoke on Monday, saying he was creating an advisory council to look at the system from top to bottom and provide a list of recommendations for improvements.

The new advisory council will hold seven public meetings across Ohio before the end of the year to seek community input.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, created by Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas, will also be participating in the review.

New Voting Machines Making An Appearance On Election Day

Voters will see new voting machines during the general election in Hancock County.

Hancock County Board of Elections director Lori Miller said that voters don’t have to worry about the machines because they are very similar to the previous model.

She added that they needed to use the machines for this election.

That’s because the machines needed to be tested before 2020 to use in the presidential election.

The polls will open at 6:30 am and will stay open until 7:30 pm. You can see a full list of candidates and issues here.

Findlay Police Respond To Hit-Skip Crash

One man is in the hospital after a hit-skip crash in Findlay Monday morning at the intersection of North Blanchard and East Sandusky Streets.

The Findlay Police Department reports that 53-year-old Suzanne Navert of Findlay was heading northbound on Blanchard just before 11 a.m. when 59-year-old Gary Ullom ran a red light and struck her vehicle.

Ullom drove off but was spotted a short time later and taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital for his injuries.

Police cited Ullom for running a red light, leaving the scene of a crash, and driving under suspension.
